4000-4200 stalled automatic in mine would be more fun.

    Depends on set-up.

I would need a much beefier version of the stock tranny though. If I even went 4l___.
    Would likely just go TH400.

I can't recall which one it was but one of the magazine video reviews of the firehawk has it running 4.9 0-60

in a different review a magazine got a hawk through the 1/4 mile in 12.9

according to Ed Hamburger of SLP even a stock LS1 is capable of going as fast as 12.6 in the right hands and if you are ok with abusing the HELL out of it. Supposedly they had some test F-bodys back in their development days that they let a pro drag racer drive and they actually pulled off these pretty much mid 12 passes....

just goes to show.... can't beat the driver mod.

Have you ever drove a stalled auto tranny, 3500 or bigger stall?

Do it but if you wanna still go in cruises then do the 4L80E. If it is only a weekend warrior with limited cruising time but mostly racing and what not then go TH-400.

It's kinda hard to explain. The stall converter doesn't lock up until the listed RPM. It is fun as hell, you can pretty much redline your motor instantly if you have a high enough stall and the car just goes. It is badass.

    I just don't know about fighting with a 4L80E.
It would still be pretty much the same....95% on the street and 5% track.
But I want the most out of it at the track.

I was driving home today in my 2.56 geared 2-speed AT Le Mans convertible. Crazy, the thing won't hit 5,000 RPM until ~93 MPH in low gear. Imagine going to the drag strip and no gear change! It now has the 406 from my (wrecked) '67 GTO, that car had 3.23 gears, no stall, and it ran the 1/4 in mid 14s at 95ish MPH. I want the Le Mans to do that, or close to it. What do you think about a big stall for the Le Mans, like 3200ish, and keeping my 2.56s, with a turbo 350 tranny. Or should I save some $$$ and get a 3.55 gearing with a 200R4 trans, like the Buick GNs (and 1989 turbo Trans Am) had back in the day, to keep my highway RPM at a sane level.

The 4L80E has the same or close to the same 1,2,3 gears and is just electronic with OD. So it requires more splicing into the harness and a few different sensors to make it work. You will have to swap ECU's also to an auto one I think. The TH400 runs great off of my six speed ECU though. If you go with a TH-400 you will wanna scale back your gears to about 3.50 ish. I have 3.73's but I am barely getting away with them and then only because I am on a bigger than stock tire for racing. On the highway it turns 3000 rpms while cruising at 65-70mph. At the track I am crossing the traps with sometimes only 100-200 rpm left and sometimes on the limiter.

I would go with a newer Trans with the extra gears if you arent doing anything too crazy power wise to the car. 200R4 or 700R4 shouldnt be too hard to bolt up to an older motor, although I am not familiar with the 406 at all
