If at all possible and the funds are there try to pick an OEM hood. Most aftermarket hoods have alot of issues as far as fitment and appearance. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

thank you for that last part. they have made malibu ss trailblazer ss silverado ss monte carlo ss impala ss, there are alot of different ss model cars. to me it ss means chevy. but z28 means camaro. like z06 and/or zr1 is vette. its not a major upgrade well if i bought one new i would kick myself if i paid another 3k for one at least. i love the hood and all but i could do without it. i got it for a toy not specifically a show car. but that doesn't mean that i am not allowed to paint my ls6 manifold lol. pics coming up when i get the camera back from mexico(parents are on vacation), along with a thread in appearance section.

As long as you openly admit what you've done to your car when some one asks or says "oh nice SS...".people that are in the "know" already know that powertrain wise, the F-cars (V8) are more the same than not anyways...

    Warning: This is IMHO:

People do look down their noses a fake SS's.

The SS hood does not boost performance in any noticeable way, it's just a cold air intake, as previously mentioned.
I does look good, though, and is one of the reasons I bought my SS, the other being the availability of other SLP options.

Perhaps you could look into the "Ultra Z" hood (sorry, no pic). Some folks think they look better than the SS hood.

I think the SS looks better, with the hood, and spoiler. That's why I sold my black Z28, and bought a white SS.
I had a '70 Chevelle that wasn't an SS, but the guy I bought it from had put on the SS sway bars, and the cowl induction hood with functional air cleaner. So when I had the car painted, I had the SS emblems (fender and grille), SS stripes on the hood and trunk lid, and the rear bumper pad put on. Then when I sold it, I advertised it as an SS clone, which brought more money than a regular Chevelle.

If the hood is made functional, then it is beneficial performance wise. Just not much in a quarter mile where the hood is heat soaked from the engine and the incoming air gets heated up by it. Many people report that you need to drive 1-2 miles before the hood cools down and is no longer significantly heating the incoming air, which is why a FAST toys kit or similar is better performance-wise. Just in case the OP was wondering =).

If you want to go with the SS hood, do it. You are the owner so do what you want. My 02 Z28 looks good now but I like the SS hood, It makes camaros look meaner! When my budget allows I'm going to get the hood for mine. Going to leave Z28 emblems.

IMHO make the car look like you want. It is yours, so disregard the naysayers. The anal-retentive collector types can look up numbers to find if it was originally an SS... life is simply too short to worry about such nonsense

Mine is a factory SS and it says 275/40 ZR17. Verified WU8 production code and build number of 20.

    Sadly now demodded :(

I like the fact that my Z doesn't have an SS hood + being NBM you can't see the Z28 badges. It's fooled a few folks at night.
