    where to find...

...the red plastic piece covering the brake light on the spoiler for my SS?? do i need to go thru SLP for this? i tried gmpartsdirect, couldnt find it. Whoever screwed the red plastic on there screwed too damn tight, the plastic is cracked around all three screws. It is starting to come loose, and it needs to be replaced ASAP. i dont want to order it thru a dealership and pay some absurd price for a piece of plastic. Anyone?

    Brace yourself

I looked and looked and had to pay $169.00 for it at dealership, same thing, previous owner torqued it down till the screws punched through. This time I put some aquarium rubber cement between it and the spoiler, kind of a shock absorber prior to screwing it back on. So far so good. Its all one piece with a plug on the wiring, cant get to the plug when you take it off so its cut and splice time,,,no biggie.

    suggestion

only other place to check would be at your local salvage yard, but they will probably want to sell you the whole light assembly. it still might be cheaper than the dealer though.

are you needing the whole assembly, or just the cover?

I think you can find aftermarket ones on ebay pretty cheap, but they say "SS" or "Z28" on them

good information guys, i was afraid i might have to buy the whole assembly. i will check ebay though, maybe I can just by the plastic piece and somehow get the SS or whatever is on there off... i just wanted to avoid giving (more of) my money to a dealership. thanks all...

Is it the third brake light you are looking for on the SS spoiler????

If so, those can be found. I found one since I had a light burnt out on mine. There was a store selling them (I'll have to check) but it was the entire light for something like $65 harness attatched and all. Even had SLP molded into the light with the SLP part number just like the factory one I took off.

You can get to the harness easily,,,it doesn't need to be spliced as mentioned. There are factory body plugs in the decklid to remove,,,behind one of them is where the plug/junction is.....very simple to replace. DON'T cut the wiring!!!! Take the time to do it right.
