    GT500 = fat pig

Price wise it compares with the Vette, but the Vette crushes it. Performance wise it compares with the SS but the SS is priced like a GT.

While I respect and like the Terminator and agree it will get more hp for less money up to a certain point, that debate could go round and round forever. sure to 700 whp it gets there much cheaper but what about beyond? It's advantage ends there. A termi's 4.6 would cost about the same to get in the 1200 + ranges as an LS derived. Debates about what cars can go with certain mods can go around in circles. Termis and hit low 11's with blower swaps and supporting mods but Fbods can to with just stalls and a cam change which come very close terms of same amount of money invested. It's all about likes. You can build anything fast with enough money.

Back on the Z28 vs GT500 thing though. I'm sure the SC 6.2l LSA has much better under the curve numbers that would augment the weight difference between what the GT500 and Z28 will be . I predict the Z28 taking a slight lead here. However what puzzles me is why the CTS-V and the supposed (there's been no "official" announcement besides a quote in autorags) Z28's engine the LSA has damn hypereutectic pistons. So mod for mod the GT500 is going to be able to put down 800 to the wheels with just a blower swap and supporting mods (I have seen 2 in person like this with sheets to back them up)wheras the Z will most definately neeed to swap pistons, again, to achieve this. Yay for adding the SC GM boo for having an SC motor without forged pistons.

Take a look at the 4.4 liter Northstar. It makes more hp than the vaunted Termi motor with less displacement. They have potential to produce 600 plus rwhp in XLR's with the same mods that Termi's get and the 4.4 liter Northstars are smaller.

Mach 1's are a great car but stock for stock they get beat by LS1 F-bodies.
well shit if we are talking about modular vs gm gen III+ pushrod engines..the gm wins hands down
its flexiblility, ease of use etc etc.the gm pushrod engine design is superior.

sorry i didn't catch on to what you where saying.

I'll call the 5th gen Camaro a fat pig too. Just like the GTO and the Challenger/ Charger. Once you go over 3500 lbs the car is too heavy.

May as well start calling your 4th gen a fat pig too then. Both of my SS 4th gens are heavier than 3500,,,and several friends of mine were also well over 3500 with theirs as well.

These 4th gens just aren't as light as everyone thinks they are. And most that think their 4th gen is light has never had theirs on a scale to begin with.

My 2000 SS weighs 3550 lbs. and my 2002 SS weighs 3,620 lbs. Both with 1/2 tank of gas and no driver. They both have headers and off road Y-pipes too, which lightens them a bit.

Put a 200 lbs. driver in there and it doesn't look too much different than a new 5th gen The only light 4th gens out there have either had massive weight reduction (which can be done with any car) or you are talking about stripped down 4th gens without power accessories,,,and those cars are few and far between.

Honestly even a 3800 lbs. car isn't that bad,,,,That's what most all of my old iron weighs.

The only cars I've had that I would even consider getting light would be V8 Vega's,,,and the lightest one I had still tipped the scales at 3,120 lbs without a driver.

well welcome to the 21st century..you will be hard pressed to find a pony car/muscle car that is under that..and probbally never will here in a few years...we the 4th gens are riding on a 50 year old platform ..with new safety regulations and more and more electronics and creature comforts...3500 can and does easily get passed.

Actually this platform was introduced in the H-body Monza's in 1975. It went stagnant for 2 years after the last H-body was made in 1980,,,, It wasn't used in the F-bodies until the 3rd gen introduction in 1982. So there was actually a 2 year stint where it went cold.

So technically,,,,if you want to go back to the H-body years,,,this platform for GM has only been around for 32 years,,,,

I did specify when i said FACTORY LONG BLOCK

And every car has engines that fail, there are ls1s bone stock with less than 40kmiles on them that had serious internal issues, does it happen often no but it does happen just like any engine. Not to mention when boost and tuning enter the equation a bad tune will ruin an engine fast and easy.

I just read this month's Road and Track, they compare the new Grand Sport (LS3) Corvette to the GT500. The Vette beats the Mustang in every catagory...hands down.

I dont think anyone disputes that. The vette has almost 1,000lbs weight advantage.
