Spent all day rewiring my amp and wired up my oil pressure gauge.
Sound system is under construction, 4 JL 6.5s should be here this week, should have a stealth box and an amp rack on the way soon.
Also detailed the hell out of the interior

when i got out of work i recharged my a/c and the a/c in the fiance's cavalier. then i fixed my horn which wasn't working, popped some new nylon rivets into my windshield wiper cowl, and sea foamed the engine wit the new spray nozzle sea foam. went out for a drive to blow the crap out of the engine from the sea foam and noticed my belts were squeaking like a mofo so i put on new belts and a new primary drive belt tensioner pulley. the only thing i didn't get done today that i really wanted to was to fix my cruise control. i think it's the switch on the clutch pedal...got a new one ordered that'll be in on tuesday. fairly productive day if i do say so myself.

Alex - FINALLY took the car out on Saturday for about an hr. Got on it a few times, nothing too crazy. She still pulls hard

Stumbled a couple times like it did last summer and even died once while coming down from a fast speed to a slow speed while hitting the brake - had the clutch in with the car in neutral so that's probably why.

I know with the blower on there, there is a lot more strain on the engine.

Anything that can be done in the tune? At least you got her out and stretched her legs a bit

Frost told me to let him know if it did it anymore. I might be able to adjust the screw on the throttle body blade to allow a scotch more air in. I did notice too though that when I double clutch it, or I keep it in gear with the clutch in, it doesn't seem to do it. He told me there was a difference on how it idled when doing that, but I can't remember to save my life now. Too many beers since then.

Got around to working on a frozen caliper pin on the front passenger side wheel. It was a major PIA to get it loose. No amount of PB Blaster, hamerring and twisting with vise grips had any effect. Finally removed the caliper bracket altogehter and cinched up the pin very tightly in a friend's really manly bench vise. Heated the bracket area around the pin with a Burnz-amatic torch to about 12 million degrees, all the while moving the bracket back and forth, till it finally creaked a little and then came loose. Drilled the crud out of the pin shaft in the bracket and installed new liberallly lubed caliper pins. Viola ! No more pad- dragging-on-the-rotor noise.

I figure I saved myself about $700 doing this $10.00 job. I had the car at the dealer for a quick oil change and tire rotation (because I was in a hurry), accompanied by their 32-point inspection (aka money hunt). I asked the service writer to have the mechanic check the front wheels for the source of my offending scraping noise. Right out of the gate, he said they would need to charge me $117.00 for a "Diagnostic Fee." I said - NO - just look at the car for anything obvious while you have the wheels off for the tire rotation. An hour later, the guy finds me in the customer lounge and says: "You need new calipers, new rotors and new pads, and BTW, whoever replaced the pads the last time, didn't lube the pins. . . And all this work will cost you about $740.00. Doncha just love your dealer ?!?

Of course, the just-installed-by-me pads were brand new, the rotors were fine, and the calipers were fine too. The only problem was the frozen caliper pin. If the dealer was really the kind of "Customer First" establishment they claim to be, they could have performed the same procedure I did and I probably woulda been a customer for life.

Oh. . . And they also want to replace my leaking pinion seal and rear transmission tailshaft seal. From what I've heard around here about ham-handed mechanics with air wrenches screwing up pinion bearings, I think I'll just let the damn thing leak and check the diff fluid once in awhile.

Sorry for the long-winded rant, but its been awhile since I posted anything, and I feel really good about saving that 700 bucks.

I had the same thing happen with both front caliper brackets. No amount of heating, torching, twisting etc helped. Got lucky both times and found salvages with good brackets. Lubed with Caterpillar brand anti-seize and lube, no more problems. DIY is always better, I spent 395 bucks ONE time to get my pads changed and rotors turned on an 01 impala. Never again...

    Terry:

Are all the dealers like this ? Why do they wanna rip you every time ? (These are rhetorical questions). FWIW, I received a followup letter from the dealer service manager about a week after my visit. He wanted to let me know that they are a customer oriented, customer first service organization, blah, blah, blah. I've been thinking that maybe I ought to respond and let him know what I really think about them.

Oh! And BTW, they couldn't even do the oil change correctly. They overfilled my crankcase by at least one quart too many. . .
