weird thing happen this morning.... gauges = crazy

So it was pretty cold this morning, probably around the low 40's. I go to start up my Z and it starts up just fine. I look at the dash and see that the rpm/speedo gauge are both at 0. Then they both climb up to the max, rpm goes to 7000rpm. and speedo goes to 150. Then they both climb down, and go back to zero. Then the rpm needle jumps to its normal idle spot. kinda weird but it looked like after market gauges that recalibrate themselves every time you start it. Oh and my trip odometer (the one that you can reset to see the mileage of each tank) also reset and went to 0. anybody know why it did this? should it be something to worry about?

Common issue on the '99 cars. It's due to low battery voltage - check your terminals and/or have the battery load tested.

GM issued a TSB on the 99's to replace the gauge cluster - but a good battery makes it go away. 99-08-49-009 Trip odometer resets to zero (exchange/install instrument cluster). Doesn't mention the gauge sweep but usually happens at the same time.

the cold weather if messing up your battery, you should take it in and have it load tested before it leaves you stranded in the cold. i recommend an orbital battery from exide, they can be boughten at csk, or kragen, checker or schucks.
they are expensive but a very great battery
