weight difference...
my buddy just bought an 04 gto. bone stock except for a K&N intake. but nothing else besides that. He let me drive it the other day cause he's still getting used to driving a stick shift and wanted to see "what it could do". so i drove it and it just didn't feel as strong as my 2000 ss when i first got it. it seemed to take awhile to climb the rpms. and just didn't break loose that much. I know the gtos are a little heavier but does it really make that much of a difference?

From what i recall reading somewhere the 04 GTO is about 3725 LBS and the 2010 Camaro SS is about 3850 LBS, give or take a little. The 05-06 GT0's are definitly alot better in pick up and very fast.

I remember seeing a good vid a while ago of a white WS6 going up against a 05-06 GTO both stock and i think both manual and the GTO barely edged it out and in a couple of the races seemed like the WS6 would keep up as the speeds got higher. Either way your going to get several different stories and experiences when it comes down to it. In my opinion the 05-06 GTO stock vs a 01-02 Camaro the GTO should pull slightly givin that there both manual trannies and both drivers are equal. In the real world that is very rare to make happen so thats the main reason why you'll get different opinions and experiences.

I ran a stock GTO 6.0 liter and bet him by a car in my 2002 Z28. I was surpized but when we really got moving you could see him inching back on me.... Alll the way threw the 1/4 I had him pretty good. From that point i knew his car put out more power but mine was lighter... I would like to run one again since i did a cam upgrade and lightend my car up about 200 pounds lol

Our 4th gens
1997 Z28 6 speed convertable...3520 lbs.
2000 SS 6 speed T-tops......3,550 lbs.
2002 SS Auto Convertable....3,620 lbs.
Only weight reduction done on the 2000 and 2002 are long tube headers and off road Y-pipes. Everything else is factory issue. So technically speaking, you could add 15-20 lbs. to both of these cars.
I've seen other 4th gens on certified scales that also came in the 35xx range. The lighter ones I've seen were gutted, back seats removed, no spare, smaller wheels, etc....or it was simply a no option 4th gen.
Since 95% of them are loaded with doodads, 3500+ is a safe bet.
With that said, I wonder just how much heavier an 04-06 goat really is?? I wouldn't think it could be more than a 150-200 lbs.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 03-03-2010 at 11:57 AM.

Arctic White- 2000 Z-28
150-200 is about right. My car weighed 3440 stock....at least that's what the certified scale said here
