Upcoming LS9 Engine to be used in new Camaro SS?
In recent months, there has been a great deal of speculation that, assuming GM decides to produce the Chevrolet Camaro, a high-performance model will be offered with a Corvette motor. In fact, GM’s Bob Lutz has even acknowledged the possibility of shoehorning the Z06’s LS7 engine into the Camaro. But according to the August issue of GM High-Tech Performance, the automaker could go a step further. The magazine says GM is contemplating putting the supercharged LS9 engine (which has been speculated to be the engine for the upcoming “Blue Devil” Corvette) in a range-topping Camaro SS. Lastly, the magazine reports GM is in the initial stages of prototyping a new “huge” LS-style engine with 8.3 liters of displacement and 900 horsepower. It’s unclear if that engine is the LS9, or something entirely different. The source who worked on the engine said, “I don’t get parts unless they’re actually going to do something with them.”

I don't know if I should rejoice or break down and sob. I really want to be able to afford a new SS. I'm worried I won't be able to because the dealerships will be asking for my 1st born.

Blue- 99 Z28
Yikes! I can't imagine a 900HP Production car. I'm skeptical of all that. Don't get me wrong, I'm confident that GM will make the new camaro b@d@$$, but 900HP!???! We'll see.

I highly doubt they would put that into a corvette let alone a camaro. But anything is possible. I was thinking some where around 650-700 hp for the "blue devil" or "corvette SS" what ever they are going to call it.

Red- 2001 Camaro SS A4
One thing I wish GM would stop doing is making their sports cars so damn expensive and selling them like freaking italian exotics...it sucks because there is noboey "average" rich enough to buy them, if they would keep them down at a reasonable price like $34,000 new...tops,, then it would be cool but c'mon..a new regular Vette for 50g's ??

With the camaro you will alway's get the most bang for your buck. It will allways be priced lower than the corvette. Un less they come out with the special additon car's allah Dale Earnheart, Berger, and Lingenfelter Camaro. These car's back in 2002 never broke the $60,000 out the door price range and there HP rating's were very impressive.

With all the hype and price hike on the C6 Z06, I look for the same on the SS models of Camaro. Especially if GM sticks a LS7 in there. Dealers will be getting sticker for Z28s. Mark it down. They can't wait for the second coming of the Camaro. A 408 in my vert is looking pretty good.
