Third Gen question --- Crossfire oddity....
Does anyone remember the rare Crossfire Injection Z28s of the circa 1983 era...??? They had twin injectors set up on a diagonal like a '69 Z/28. I came across the entire ram-induction system to one in a junk yard today ---air cleaner with chrome emblem, and ram-air system with twin solenoid operated flapper doors for the hood (the hood was there too but I just pulled the system). Just wondering if anyone thinks it might be worth it to someone other than a museum of oddities... and since I don't belong to a third-gen club figured I'd ask here...
I hate to see it go to the crusher, but I'm hesitant to spend $50 just to have it sit in my garage, and I don't think my wife would let me hang it in the living room as a conversation piece since she wasn't too keen on the Diecast 1965 Chrysler 300 grille I brought home and tried to hang on the wall(which btw weighed more than an entire Camaro nose...).

Red- 1998 Camaro SS
If I remember right 82, 84 Corvettes and 82, 83 Camaros came from the factory with the crossfire injection setup. If it works $50 is not bad for the whole system (electronics and manifold etc..) I'm sure if it works you could resell it to someone restoring either a Corvette or Camaro for more then $50.

just grab it and the hood as well and hold on to it for a bit. i'm sure you will find a use for it or a buyer for it.
come to think of it there was one for sale here a while back...several years now...but a weird setup to say the least.

The nickname for those was "Cease Fire Injection."
When I ordered my '82 Z28, I was very disappointed that you could only get it with an automatic because it "added" 20 HP.
Turns out the carburetor engine was better.
One of those slick ideas that looked great on paper but didn't work very well.Cheers,

2001 3.8 Black - sold- 2000 SS Black M6
I used to work with a guy who had an older Z, i cant remember what year it was, but i know it had the little flaps on the back of the cowl that opened and closed as he got in and out of the gas, it was pretty sweet.

It might have been sweet, but the whole system was crushed in the junk-yard today. This is why I prefer to pull stuff and face possibly being called a parts speculator or flipper --- what a waste to see something like that crushed!!!
BTW, many 4th(!)-gen cars now appearing in do-it-yourself yards out here now that price have fallen so low (they won't even stock certain Toyotas as old 1990 because they are worth so much to Toyota-only yards...)
Just found a second-gen 8-track in a 100& original '75 'Bird Esprit --- does anyone know of a good second-gen forum...?

There are more out there.
Don't feel bad about flipping parts. I used to raid Ecology and Pick a Part for stuff in the 80's and sold stuff at Long Beach and Pomona. Made some good coin too.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 10-12-2008 at 08:23 PM.

Thanks 67Camaro for the info and advice... and btw, went back to Pick-a-part again today and two perfect, complete, 4th-gen V-6s are in the 'yard and at least 6 Camaros, one with an LT-1 still in it.
