Most things are the same. The SS suspension is a little different, wheels, a couple of other appearance things, exhaust. You could get a few different options with the SS from SLP that The Z didn't have a chance to get either. They are a bit differnt, but perform very similar. They do look better anyway.

ok i will retract my previous statement. it is a drivers race. and I'm all for the "any given day thing". but the driver of the ls1 would have to be legless.
ive driven a few mustangs including an 03 and an 06.
i dont know if a waste of 18 grand are the right words......
in all seriosness though, i do respect the potential in those ohc motors, but the overall value of a stock gt pales in comparison to an ls1 f body.

I drove a 05 GT auto when they first hit the market and I couldn't belive how soft and slow it was. I though it was just because of the auto. After more came around I drove a 06 GT manual and it wasn't any better! I was really sadly disappointed in them. I drove a 04 Mach 1 manual that would beat the crap the of the 05+'s and it was stock! But yeah, an LS1 should win without a doubt. A4 or M6.

Everyone is entitled to have an opinion.

While I don't like the look of the new Mustangs...I do like the powertrain.
They run damn near even with the LS1 F-Bodys with quite a bit less cubes.

I guess I am just not brand loyal really. I do love my WS.6 though.

I was always impressed with the power for displacement also. Now only if they did that with a 5.4 and put one in there.

they should bump the displacement up to 302 CID and make some 5.0's is what they should do.

i hear ya. i come from a mustang family on one side and have always had a soft spot for the older ones and some, i repeat, some of the newer ones. i am loyal to gm but i think they, like other car companies have gotten alittle lazy. the issue i have is bang for the buck. the 03 i drove was 18,300. i got on it pretty decent and it didnt give me that excitement in my stomach like an f body does. it was too slow, didnt pull enough in any gear and i dont particlularily like the feel in the cockpit. but i will say this, those cable clutches are sweet and the shifter felt good.

an SS has the LS1 engine in it and will probably beat a stock '05 GT 90% of the time. Now through in a tune and CAI possibly alittle more and you could prob. hang in there or even win.

the Z28 has the LT1 engine which only runs a 14.0 ET.

    So there you go.

Wow I guess all this time my z28 has had an LT1. Sorry guys I must leave this site now and go to LT1.com.
    haha hilarious....

i'm no mustang fan at all. but yes they do make nice hp with smaller ci. but thats been the case for a few years. example mustang 5.0 chevy 5.7 the chevy 305 was crap imo. but its gotta suck to think that a car 3-5 years old can still beat your 05-06 are atleast give you a very close run! call my z crap and i'll hand you your ass. and a ss is a poor mans vette. please!

and the z and the ss are different ss of 01-02 have a different intake (15+hp) and has a alot of slp options(if ordered) the z didn't.
    LS7 clutch,01 slave,Corsa 3" stainless exhuast,drilled/slotted rotors + ceramic pads,160 thermo,Mti clear lid,msd 8.5 wires & Ngk plugs...more to come!

What? The Z28 and SS have always had the same intake for any given year. Same with the Formula/TA/WS6... 1998-2000 got the LS1 intake, 2001-02 got the LS6 intake...across the board.
The is no power difference between any of the LS1 F-bodys unless you got specific options that included a lid or less restrictive exhaust.

No doubt about it LS1's are one hell of an engine
but you shouldnt sell Ford short.

You guys are comparing a 4.6L vs. 5.7L engine.
The fact that the stang can hang pretty close with a full 1 liter
less displacement and same rpm range is impressive.

If you want to compare apples vs. apples why
dont you line up with my 351W - 5.8L and see how you like it.

well thats all fine but when was it proven that a stang can hang "pretty close" for lack of a better term, i have RAPED gt's, stock and modded. I mean owned them from a roll and a dig. I beat a mach 1 and got beat but those are dual over heads and have a good amont more hp than gt's. they are a good challenge. he had full exhaust. good race.
and as for your windsor, why are you challenging? my friend has a fuel injected windsor transplanted into an 83 coupe and its a roller motor. he built it from the ground up and it runs 13.60s. im not knocking the motor bc its bad ass, but it isnt some kind of hp monster in stock fashion. and i would love to race one so if you ever come through st. louis let me know. my buddy would never run his........to paranoid he'll wreck it.

Not many people are going to be afraid of your engine when you dont tell us what mods you have.

FUNNY!!!! Those 'Stang guys really know their place for the most part. Some just haven't raced an LS1 to be put in there place. Or maybe i've got an LT1? Well, who knows? All I know is that I haven't found a Mustang here that can hang.
It is good to know that my "4L60E is quicker than the m6's".

Roller cam block, AFR heads, 10:1 compression, CompCams XFI cam, LT's, ect. ect.
making about same or more power as new LS2's but not quite with an LS7

Never been to the track, just not my thing.
I would be surprised if it wasnt a solid 12.00 sec car.

Dont get me wrong, I think LS1 is one of the best engines ever made
trying to talk my buddy into transplanting a turbo LS1 into his '64 impala right now.

Wow...that really makes a lot of those guys look bad, but if you'll look closely, they're almost all newbies on the first couple pages, and if they're not it's because they're not usual members in the street/strip section. Those guys are very well diversed with 4th gen f-bodies. Several mods there actually own 4th gens/3rd gens/and a new Goat. That's probably one of the most informed Mustang crowds you'll find about our cars. Just got a bad batch of the wrong people in that thread. Just read the sticky at the top of S/S and it explains all about the LS1 and all it's glory for any newcomers....obviously some of those guys missed that.

To the OP, why in the hell would you sign up on a Mustang site and then post one of the worst threads there? Try doing something productive...like getting a job, or even better, a female companion. Kids today...
