The actual numbers below may vary by Manufacturer.
This chart is intended to be ONLY a guide.
Please consult the tire manufacturer for their current specifications!

    RATING
    km/h mph

    G
    90 56

    J
    100 62

    K
    110 68

    L
    120 75

    M
    130 81

    N
    140 87

    P
    150 93

    Q
    160 99

    R
    170 106

    S
    180 112

    T
    190 118

    U
    200 124

    H
    210 130

    V
    240 149

    W
    270 168

    Y
    300 186

    ZR
    over 300 over 186

When ZR appears in the tire size designation, (235 - 45ZR17) it signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph. If a service description also appears, the maximum speed is indicated by the service description.

    EXAMPLE:
    235/45ZR17 - 149+ mph
    235/45ZR17 99W - 168 mph
    235/45ZR17 99Y - 186 mph

Do not mix and match tires with different speed ratings on your vehicle. This can cause serious problems with the handling of your vehicle. If you desire better cornering response, there is no problem installing a higher speed rated tire on your vehicle.

    Warning:
Speed ratings apply only to the tire, not to the vehicle. Putting a speed rated tire
on any car does not mean that the car can be operated at the tire's rated speed

I've done about 140 in a ,contest of speed(cop terms),racing to us lol, didn't notice it, was just looking at the road ahead and me passing the gt stang.. once it was over looked down at the speedo and I got sick, along with my friend that was holding on to everything he could for dear life..lol. I will never do that on the street and with a passanger again especially since I didnt have z rated tires on.. My Z has been lowered 1 1/2 in and I have panhard and lower control arms on it and still felt like it got alittle loose when I let off not pressing the brakes.. For the ones doing above that boy you guys are brave. be safe..

Last time I went well over 130 I had the t-tops off and the radio full blast. Let me tell you, at that speed, the only thing you are thinking of is not crashing. I did not hear the radio or the sound of the wind passing over my head. Adrealine was pumping hard and fast. When I slowed down, I was shaking. (maybe because I hit a bump in the road doing that speed).

If you do feel the need for speed, make sure your T-tops are on! You might feel just a bit safer.

I took my Z28 to the 162 limit for a good while. It was a really flat road but still wanted to float bad. Any little bump or raise in the road made me float. Empty road that I could see for miles if any cars were coming. Lost about a Qt of oil during that run. Don't think I will be doing that again. T-tops off? I had mine on and locked and sounded like they were going to fly off. My computer had the 162 Limit. I changed the program for some dyno testing a while back. I will not even try to go faster on the road. Stock setup wants to play superman at those speeds.

[QUOTE=NSSTG8TR98;1324324]My speedo taps out at 155 but I kept going and it didn't seem to be slowing down. Couldn't tell you for sure how fast it was willing to go.[/QUOTE

Me too I was racing on the freeway at like 3am I had hit the 155 was in 5th gear with no sign of slow I was still pulling on the other car it hit 155 with at about 5000rpm i kept going throw it into 6th for a good 30 second still wide open and moving can't tell you what I was going though but there was no sign of anything stopping the car, and yeah don't touch your breaks when you going that fast best think is to just leave it in gear and just let I coast

I had a 97 Z28 up to 120 and then it governed out. Tire size 235 something 16. My new one 01 Z28 (43k and basically stock) is much faster and glides at high speed. 140 feels like 70. I was amazed how quiet and controlled the car was. I wasn't scared at all. I had it up to maybe 155 ran out of speedometer and lost interest. I don't know if its governed or not but it flies and doesn't seem to hesitate. It does have the optional size 245/50/16. Some Mustangs I had up to speed hesitated and slowed in the 120-140 range.

nice i know what you mean the car doesn't struggle at all seems like it has alot more to go i'm on 17 and 295. and those stangs probably didn't hesitate they just don't have much after 120 smaller engine just like those ricers they put the turbo on and get up to 100 quick but after that they have nothing.

i wish i could go that fast, my car does weird shit at 100+. first off, right when i hit 100, a little light comes on, bottom left of the speedo, not with the warning lights, that says ABS INOP, it stays on till i kill the car. i cant feel anything, and using the brakes doesnt feel any different, but god i hope i dont need ABS over 100.

After that, at 3200 RPMS, 110 mph i think, car wants to shift, 3200 is the shift point if your step on it in an A4. but since im in 4th, the only way it can go is down, so it does, and downshifting at 110 is no bueno, throws me up to about 6500, i can cruise along just fine at 110, but as soon as a reach that 3200rpm mark, it freaks out.

Im really curious to see the max speed of a 3.8, 70mph is 2000 rpms, 100 mph is 3000 rpms, i wonder what it would be like at 5000

When you change your gearing from 3.42 to a 3.73 or 4.10 you will gain significant acceleration but like you said, lose top speed. With an M6 you can afford to go with the 4.10's and up because you have basically 2 overdrive gears. I have yet to change mine from the 3.42's but trust me, it's on the list.
