I paid to have a car that's "called an SS"...but what can you do, right?

This should probably be a sticky here...it's the same SS placement gide i'm using for my SS.

Here's what I got for ya (from Tech):

"I just did this the other day for someone that was asking about the same thing.

In the first pic it is 1.5" from the bottom of the emblem to the top of the molding and 4.125" from the emblem to the edge of the fender where the line is drawn.

    Click for full size

I think this pic is self explanatory

In this pic, it is 6.875" from the edge of the "O" to the bottom corner of the bowtie emblem.

I know what my car is and even if it isnt real it will look the part. It will always lack the SLP build sticker on the passenger side door and the vin check through SLP so anyone who knows these cars wont be fooled but the casual Mustang should take me more seriously than just assuming an SS is faster due to its visual aesthetics.

Thats exactly my point. I'm bored with stoplight racing. I would rather go out and enjoy my car by myself.

So you're saying you have to not have badges on your car to not race? I'm confused. If you don't want to race, don't.

Ya GM has pretty much defaced the SS monikor by sticking it on every truck, SUV, and sub compact in exsistence. It's a sad world. SS used to really mean something cool..

Of course they tried to do the same thing with Z28. Remember the Z24 and Z26 knockoffs?

They're not knockoffs, it's the suspension package rpo code... Like w/the trucks you've got Z71... Yes, SS used to mean powerful engine 2-door, 'ready-to-race'!

What do you think Z28 used to mean?

I'm an SS owner and decided to pay the extra money because the value stays up a lil more thats all. Well that, and I feel the SS hood and spoiler do add to the car. Does that mean everyone should pay the extra money for 5 rated hp? No it doesn't. The car hobby is the car hobby, and everyone should be able to pay whatever they want for admission to it. Besides that, last time I looked the title for my car said it was a Z28 with the SS option. It's not dedicated on the paperwork as an SS. Of course the VIN will show that. Either way rubber smells the same burned off a Z28 or an SS. Haha. Just have fun with it and build what you like.

Somewhat irrelevant, but when I had my 2000 v-6 car it obviously didn't have badges but I did have a black hockey stripe put on it and it said 3800 where normally the "SS" or "Z28" would go on the vertical part of the stripe. It didn't look too bad either.

I'm not aware of the signifigance of that, but it sounds interesting.
Z28 was a special option package when it was first introduced in 67. It was specifically created to homologate the car for SCCA Trans Am racing. Because of this, is why the car was built with 302 ci. At the time they only allowed 305 cubes in the class.
There were very specific parts and pieces these cars came equipped with. And it only lasted through the 69 model year.
After the initial 3 year run,,,in my opinion, the term "Z28" kind of lost direction and as the years went on it just became another model that GM made with only a history in Trans Am racing that most people have forgotten now.
To me, Z28 just doesn't have the same meaning as it used to.

I have never heard that before, so I can't attest to its validity, but it does make logical sense.
