This might be a newbie question, but how can you tell if your car was modified by SLP? Do you just call them an give them your VIN or something ?

Yes, you need the year of car and the last 8 of the VIN.
Also you can tell if it has options by looking at the RPO codes in the drivers door. It should have WU8 for a real SS and then Y2Y which is the second sticker option from SLP. If it has Y2Y, look on the passenger door for a sticker and it will have what options SLP installed on the vehicle. If it does not have Y2Y it is a base model SS which is just the wheels, hood, spoiler, and badges.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
SS #2988, A4, Navy Blue Metalic, 335HP Dual Dual Exhaust, Chrome 10 spokes, Floor mats, Dash plaque, and SS Grille
Best ET 13.08 @ 106.1, 2.00 60', with SLP lid

18D Cock Diesel- 1999 Z28; 98 SS #2043 RIP
I thought that ALL "SS" models had beefier suspension parts, front and rear sway bars, etc....Can anyone educate me as to what's what?

You are correct...... it is not just badging, hood, wheels and spoilers.
It also includes a heavier handling package
Here's the info
SS PERFORMANCE PACKAGE
INCLUDES
325 HORSEPOWER
FORCED AIR INDUCTION HOOD
17” ALUIMIUM WHEELS
SS SPECIFIC SPOILER
HI PERF RIDE & HANDLING SUSP
LOW RESTRICTION DUAL OUTLET EXHAUST SYSTEM
SS BADGING
This information is straight from my window sticker.
SLP is an aftermarket company as is GMMG selling,
and at one time installing aftermarket parts on F-Bodies
Nothing more or less

Arrest me red- 2000 camaro ss
Just how much rarer are the slp ss compared to the base ss?

In my opinion it is much rarer to own a non modified SS then a SLP conversion.
Example:
In 2001 there were 6332 SS models produced.
There were 5373 sent to SLP for aftermarket equipment.
Only 959 SS models were sold without aftermarket modifications.
I would think it would be rarer to own a non SLP conversion then a SLP conversion.
Just my opinion………

My buddy ordered it new, I bought it off him after sitting in his garage for 3 yrs. I have all the paperwork, I can find out the build date or at least the in service date.
