    skip shift eliminator?

Im tired of this skip shift in my 99 ss. I heard there is a aftermarket part that will make this stop working. What is it and how much does it cost? thanks.

And how do I post pics in my thread?

SLP makes a skip shift eliminator - plug and play - for about $30. Just google it - most speed shops sell them. Check out the sticky on Photobucket - it'll tell you how to post up pics.

Know anybody that tunes? Or that can access the pcm? Have them program it out. I did this and it was free!

^^^Yup. You can have it tuned out of your PCM by someone that knows how to, or you can get the SLP skip shift eliminator plug-in thing. That's what I did, I got the SLP plug-in, I like it this way because I can choose to go to 4th or not when the light still comes on. The SLP plug-in makes the solenoid on your transmission disabled so even tho the light still comes on on the dash when the PCM says to do the skip shift, you will shift into 2nd. Hope this clears everything up, I am now confused by what I just wrote LOL.

I had the skip shift on my 94 Z28 and removed 3 wires from the PCM to disable the solenoid AND the light on the dash. FREE MOD! I'm going to look into doing this on my 01 SS.

On the older PCMs (like your '94), all you had to do was disconnect the CAGS solenoid at the transmission to disable it. The PCM wasn't "smart" enough to detect a disconnected solenoid, so it'd still light the "Skip Shift" light (whats the BFD about this?), but no code or "Service Engine Soon" light was triggered. The newer PCMs will detect a disconnected solenoid, so the SES light will come on. The work-around is to replace the solenoid resistance w/ a resistor (15-30 ohms) to fool the PCM into thinking the CAGS solenoid is still connected. That is all the SLP "Skip Shift Eliminator" is, a 15-cent resistor in a plug sold for $30. I went the low-cost route and put my own 15-cent resistor in the CAGS solenoid connector to eliminate my skip-shift. Spent the other $29.85 on beer.

I had my friend program it out on my 98, purchased $29.85 in beer, took the $.15 and bought me a big dill pickel to go with said beer.

    WIN!

when you shift from 1st to 2nd if your not at a certian RPM the computer blocks out 2nd and 3rd and makes you go to 4th to save gas. GM did this so people didnt have to pay a "gas guzzler" charge when they bought these cars new

    This is your best bet!

Having a tuner fix that is fail proof, unlike the little SLP pile or an O2 sim.

My SLP skip shift "pile" is working flawlessly, years later. I like the idea of having the light come on and I can choose to skip or not. My car can still handle the ~800 RPM pull in fourth.

    Hopefully they don't all fail....

As for the light, that is obviously personal preference. It drove me nuts personally.
