Should a 99 Z-28 beat a 00 SS?
Well I have a 2000 SS, and my friend has a 99 Z-28. They are both M6's. They both have SLP lids and airboxes. They both have Borla catback exhausts. His is basically stock otherwise, and mine has a Granatelli MAS.
We can be driving down the highway, and we are both in the same gear, and we punch it and they are even up until the high RPM's and then he pulls on me a little bit at the top end. What do you guys think?

Given each car is almost 10 yaers old there could be a host of issues with one or the other due to maitenance. But on a highway roll he probably has lower (numerically) gears, or might be a little lighter due to less options. I know my stock Auto Z28 beat a coworkers Auto SS everyday despite him having deeper gears.

Well i am in the process of putting a stock MAS back on mine. And mine has about half the milage his has. They are both six speeds, so i am not sure they are different gears. I think my exhaust might have a plate in it, and i know his is wide open. I like the way mine sounds though, so i am not changing it.

Shit, a tuneup and that maf is probably hurting you IMO.
Do a full tuneup , fuel filter, plug/wires/etc

I plan on doing a tuneup. and i dont think it is a drivers race. We are starting out in the same gear and at the same speed. We are not trying to race, we are trying to see if the cars are evenly matched. We go to redline in 4th gear. that takes it out of the drivers hands.

Could be anything, alignment, mileage is different. Spark plugs, oil, oil filter. Could be since his exhaust is wide open and yours is not. Get tune ups at the same time. Stock for stock, the SS should be slightly faster if any. But it is really a drivers race. Supposedly the MAF sensor won't do anything without a tune..

thats true. we actaully use the same oil and filter, we did our oil changes at the same time.We just bought an HP tuner, so we will be tuning both cars at the same time. And i think mine should be lighter, my whole front end is fiberglass, his is not. My fenders, hood, and front facia are all fiberglass. We have the same interior.

you know you are kinda right. it is pointless for us to really do this. I plan on getting both cars on the scale this weekend, so we will see which one weighs more. I also plan on getting them both tuned this weekend. So we will see. But as far as a drivers race, i think i got him, i am a better stick driver than he his. and i taught him how to drive stick.

we both have 17 inch corvette wheels. I am trying to put the stock one back in, i need a housing now, or a really cheap MAS. It has factory SLP air box system with a K&N filter. His air filter is different than mine, i plan on trying one like his and see if this helps. the last time we tried the rolling start we were doing about 60 and in 4th gear. the cars were even until about 5K and he just nudged me. I let off as soon as he nudged me.He is the reason i bought my car, i liked his so much. He is the one that works on mine and he is supposed to be tuning it the same as his. I think this weekend we are going to get things figured out.
