Saving my leather seats...
My 02 Z28 only has 28k miles and has leather seats that are in great shape. I am a police officer, and have to wear a full duty belt to work, with cuffs, gun, batton etc. My Camaro has recently become my primary vehicle and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or good seat covers to save my leather. Any ideas appreciated.

take off your duty belt before you get in the car and put it back on when you get out of the car. that'd be my solution. word.

Good question...
I was actually wondering about seat covers myself, to protect the leather and keep the heat off. I imagine those seats get HOT in the sun with the tops off.
Wet Okole makes some great neoprene seat covers for Jeeps and trucks, I wonder if they make them for F-Bodies. I'll have to check.
EDIT:
Yup. http://www.wetokole.com/CAMF.html
They have them for 'Birds, too.
They're pricey, but I saw a set on a Dodge Ram, and they are NICE.

Blackety Black- 35th Anniversary SS
I had these in my truck and they are nice! They are waterproof and everything. Though the items on the officers belts may still put imprints or damage the leather through these seat covers as they are durable but thin. Kind of like how you can cut yourself through your shirt but your shirt doesn't tear. I would suggest keep a thick towel in the back seat or somewhere in the car and when you have the belt on just lay it on the seat folded over several times. Then when your out cruisin' just throw it in the trunk...

IMO dont put covers on, enjoy your leather seats. I use Armor All Leather Care Gel on mine. It cleans and conditions. Keeps leather looking new and helps prevent cracking

I use Zano leather cleaner/protectant, around where I live an officer was on his way home in his personal car and someone attempted to car jack him. They actual had a shoot out, so taking the belt off is not an option to me.

I have bought Walmart seat covers, about once a year for my car and they're fine for saving the original seats underneath, cheap too. Also, Walmarts black rubber, truck floor mats for $7 fit perfectly, don't slide and trap the dirt.

How do you put them on with the seat belt loop, just unscrew it, put the cover on and then screw it back in through the cover?

Why don't you just change when you get to work...then you can just carry your off duty weapon in the maro.

all I wear is denim pants, and they're going to town on my seats. I went to the 40th bday show for the Camaro and showed Scott Settelmire my car, and he signed it and looked it over. gave me some good tips, such as using jewlers polish to clean my headlights. He saw my drivers seat and told me without questions to put a seat cover over it, because my leather doesn't stand a chance with my jeans. so, I think I'll be getting some tan seat covers. how much do those covers run? I wont ever give Wal-Mart any of my money. fuck wal-mart.

We dont have any locker rooms at our headquaters, so I cant change there, I think im either gonna just let the leather go or get some cheap things from Autozone or something.

You could always go with the cheap seatcover, and sew in (or have your wife/gf do it) a piece of sturdy material to the backside of the cover where your belt rubs.
It sounds ghetto, but I bet a few layers of denim from an old pair of jeans would work well.

Got some Autozone ones and they looked so horrible that I took them back, I might just slide a t shirt over the back of the seat to keep the leather seat from grabbing the leather holster and such. Sounds dumb, but I have seen it done before.

ONYX BLACK- 2000 Camaro SS
My mother used to put plastic seat covers on her sofa........
Whats the point?? Who are you saving the seats for?? The next owner??
Do you floor the pedal to the metal or do you lug along at 1200RPM??
Use it, enjoy it.
My drivers leather seat has a worn spot in it from 80,000 sweet miles.
Have fun!!!!!!!!!
