Questions about a Camaro.
Ok. So I stopped at a local car dealer today because, as I passed by, I remembered that they had a Z28 that I wanted to check out. So, I look at it. It's clean as hell. Monterey Maroon Metallic, nice aftermarket dual exhaust (had 2 tips on each side, didn't know the brand), t-tops, and Hurst 6-speed.
Specs:
2002 Z28
37,000 miles
M6
T-tops
Aftermarket exhaust
So, I go in, someone asks if they can help me, and I ask, "How much for the Camaro?" He replies, "The burgundy one?" I say, "Yeah." His answer to that question was, "$13,900." Now, mind you, this car is bone stock, with the exception of the exhaust.
My questions are:
Are they asking too much? (From what I've learned on this site, I believe they are.)
What could possibly add to the value? (beside being a 2002 with low miles)
If I can acquire the remaining funds, what kind of offer should I make them?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: If this is in the wrong section, I'm sorry. Mods, please move accordingly.Last edited by kickflippin1; 03-25-2010 at 08:28 PM.

I would say offer 1500 less with tax, title, and license fees. If they won't do that offer 1500 less and you pay tax, title, and license.
So basically 12,400 out the door or 12,400 plus your fees.

leather?
chrome wheels? (stock?)
traction control?
put it on a lift. check it out.
I'd say $12400 wouldn't be a bad price.

I'd say it's in the ballpark. There is room to negotiate. Low miles, great color, and all stock, sounds like a winner.
That exhaust could be the optional SLP dual/dual setup, since it sounds like it also has an optional Hurst shifter.
So that could possibly still be the stock exhaust on the car too. Easy to spot, it would have a distictive stainless welded transverse muffler that is somewhat hexagon shaped (for lack of better description), along with a larger I-pipe and larger 2 1/2 tail pipes with dual tipped tips.

Maybe this will help since my description is vague.
If the muffler looks like this one, the car has a factory SLP dual/dual system.
You can see a distinctive drop in the middle of the case with a crease. There is one on the top side as well. It's not your typical oval case style muffler.

They have the upper hand, Our cars are becoming somewhat rare with low miles and not abused. If you really want it go through it with a fine tooth comb and then make them a offer, all they can say is yes or no.
Most dealers know the game and they also know what they have. Someone will pay it..
For instance i just bought a 97 Dodge ram, asking price was 3200. I checked it over, made a list of problems, Offered 1400 and they accepted.
You never know if you dont ask.

Go back and snap some pics with your cell and then post them up.
Both interior and exterior.

I went and stopped by there today, and took a few pics.
Here is a link to the car on their website:

I'm not gonna post the pics I took, because they already have them, and that saves me time.
It does have the Hurst 6 speed, also.

I would go through the car and offer them less for every thing that is not factory definitly take money off for the exhaust because that is what they would do to you

I don't think this would work, but you have an excellent point, and I know that I would definately try to do this! And if they say no, bring it to their attention that this is what they would do. What's the worst they can say, no?
As has been said before, look at the little things to see if they perform up to par. Windows function properly and up to par? Do the power seats go all the way forward, back, up, down, lumbar, etc.? Are the power mirrors "sticky"? Steering wheel mounted radio controls, do all the buttons work correctly? What about the cupholder that slides out by the passenger left leg, below the radio? Is it broke? Do all the speakers sound great, or is one or more blown? Check for the little things, this is a good way to tell how somebody has treated the car. Atleast IMO

I would ask for a carfax report. It may tell something you need to know. It should be free from the dealer, if not go somewhere else.
You could look at the blue book value on it.
Do all your home work before buying it Good luck.
