Question on this 98 SS camaro

I thought all black 98 SS camaros came with RED ss badges? I found this 98 ss on ebay and Id thought the ss badges were supposed be red in color? Also how could you tell if this would be a true ss camaro and not a clone?

you would have to look at the RPO code sheet / sticker one the driver's door

if it is a true ss it will say WU8 as one of the codes

I'm pretty sure that the oil life system did not come on till 99. I have a 98 SS and it does not have it, but my soon to be wife's 99 v6 does have it.

The best way to know if the car is an SS or not is to write down the VIN and call a Chev dealer with it. Ask for the parts department, and they will want the last 8 numbers of the VIN to check options. They will be able to tell you if it is an SS or not.

Not a 98, As for SS, don't think so either, but check the Door, If can't tell, then do what AX said and call your local dealer with the vin, or jsut the last six or eight adn that will be enough for them to tell you

Call or Email SLP and they can tell you if the car is a true SS or not by the Vin number.

I work for a Chevy dealer and ran the VIN. It's a 1998 true SS built 5/28/98, sold in IL.

So that would make it a late production SS and it could have possibly received the 99 option of the oil life crap.

It is also possible he changed the emblems because the silver outline looks better than the red.
