No Park in My 2000 A4

so as i came home today i went to put my car into park and when i did it wasnt there it was into park but it was not holding the car at all then if i just jiggled the stick it would go into reverse. i took the car back out and drove it again and came back hoping my troubles would be solved and nothing its like its skipping right over park. any one have any clue what i should do or what could cause this problem

take a look at the shifter and see if it goes into the park detent inside the console. if it does then the problem more than likely lies inside of the trans. possibly at the parking pawl...could be busted.
