new to camaro's
Hi everyone,
I was a longtime mustang guy of 15 years, and now i'm converted to chevy. Just bought a 2002 z28 SS black on black, chrome wheels, and a 6-speed. I am really loving this car, it feels stronger bone stock than my fully modded 2004 mudstain GT. what are some common problems with these cars? what are the best mods? what will it take to go a 12.20-12.00 at the track? Thanks everyone for the help!

Get some long tubes, 4.10 gears, lid, exhaust, p/p throttle body, sticky tires, and a tune.
All cheap mods, without going into the engine (cams/heads) should get you well into the 12s.
A nice heads/cam setup with the above mods will prob. get you in the 11s. Add nitrous to it and you should be able to break into the 10s if you can hook.

really that easy huh? was thinking also about the predator for the tune and so I can turn off the skip shift, turn on the fans earlier, and traction control off

Alot of ppl use predator tunes, I'd personally just spend about the same price, or maybe a little less and just get a dyno tune. There should be a switch to turn the traction control off.
It is pretty easy to run strong. You're starting out with around 340-350 hp and about 290-300 at the wheels. With complete intake, exhaust, and a tune you can probably make 340-350 at the wheels.
Here's a pretty informative thread for expected gains from bolt ons. http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7757

Mark, check autotrader. There are low mileage cheap Z28s out there.
I bought one in August with 16k miles, lightly modded for 11,500 bucks.
Don't be one of the owners that pay 16K dollars for a 60K mile Z28 or SS. Not worth it.

I was actually in NC when I was looking. I did a nation wide search, found it in Cleveland. Flew out there, and drove to Louisiana, then to Kansas City.
I saved a few thousand bucks by just spending a little on a plane ticket and gas money. I'm surprised more people don't go that route. I'll never again limit my car searches to a certain location.
