Black- 2000 Camaro SS
Mike Nash
Hello Everyone,
I own a 2000 Camaro SS and have been having clutch issues. After researching the topic, I have a few questions about the fix. I have limited funds so I need to make good decisions on the parts I am purchasing. I found a spec stage 1 clutch kit for $269. I have read mostly bad reviews about this clutch and am wondering if this puchase is a mistake. I think the master has failed because the pedal has collapsed to the floor. I have read about the "upgraded hydraulics" and question if a new slave is really necessary. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Sounds more like the slave went out to me...I believe a bad master would keep your clutch from engaging, but you would still have pressure on the pedal (I think, my slave and master went out together in a big bang of awesome...)
It would be completely pointless to change out the master without also doing the slave...you would be paying the price very shortly down the road. Go ahead and get the slave and master, you'll need at least that. As far as the clutch system goes, the LS7 kit is about the best and decently priced setup.
But I wouldn't go cheap on the master, I would at the very least by a GM factory replacement. Others may tell you to go with a McLeod adjustable, and I would agree funds permitting (not sure on the price difference there).
If you want to keep from tearing into the tranny time after time, do all of this, and do it all now....I don't know a person on this forum who would disagree with me there.
Oh, and get the 7-10 dollar pilot bearing while you're at it. Cheap insuranceLast edited by Y2KArcticSS; 07-22-2009 at 01:24 PM.

Another 2K SS owner - nice. Thanks for the comment, I think your advice is sound. Any idea how much for the ls7 parts or where to buy them?

Kentucky Speed is a sponsor on this site, I think they have about the best price on LS7 kits if my memory serves me right (quite a few clutch threads here lately). As far as the other stuff, I would order through GMPartsDirect to get the best price on factory GM parts. I'll see if I can get you some direct links, one moment....

Oh, and pilot bearing...I think you could just go to a local parts store for this, and get it cheaper, and no shipping....

Just in case, I just found this a few weeks ago. Tick Shift Transmissions is making what looks to be a very high quality master cylinder setup. Here is the link, expensive but it seems to be a seriously nice unit.

i will be going this route in the very near future with the Ls7 kit myself. im surprised my stocker has held on this long. however now whenever i get on it, i only have 1st and 2nd gears before the pedal is on the floor...
