Where I come from, if you're driving an auto at the drag strip you're getting made fun of because it takes NO skill to drag race with an auto. Wait for the light and floor it. What is the fun in that? Just save the gas and money modding your car and buy a racing game. THAT would be more fun...

I'm not dissing autos though. I drive a m6 as my current daily driver but I'm starting college soon for autobody repair and plan on getting a a4 as my project car to work on and do custom fiberglass interior/exterior work. It'll then probably become my daily driver and my Camaro will be my weekend/racing car. I just like the feeling of having more control over my car and a a4 can't give me what a m6 can.
where you come from must have no real racers.
look at any top fuel/funny car, all autos.

^No doubt. And the no skill comment on drag racing an auto is rediculous.

racing with an auto isn't the easiest thing in the world, you still have to know how to drive the car.

about the only time I like having an auto is driving in heavy traffic, nothing is like hitting a clean 2-3 shift in a stick, and hearing the tires bark!

i wouldnt go that far at all. they are barely automatics by a lamens definition...

    but....

that is just my way of, in a roundabout way, agreeing with you that it isnt easy driving those cars or any other car down a quarter mile trapping well over 100 miles an hour.

so there, i broke down. i cant believe this thread is still alive in all honesty. its like beating a dead horse.

its all hard to drive if your fast enough....agreed?

i never had to do it.. but i know the launch wouldnt be easy.. i have trouble doing the brake thingy lol... its hard cuz im not used to it... manuals easier on take off for me.. not for everyone... but when it comes to 1-2 2-3 etc... i think most people will agree when i say it takes a lil more skill

I myself traded in my 2000 Z28 6 speed for my new gmc truck and one divorce later i traded it in on my 2002 Z28 automatic and i cant wait to switch it out. Someone said there was a kit u can buy that has the complete setup to swap everything over from auto to manual for like $2,000 but i havent found it yet! It was said to have everything including the new console! Im thinkin of looking into that soon as i have the cash.

auto is the way to go cause if youre not good with the 6spd u may need to replace the clutch sooner or later on the auto u dont have that problem

what is the faster LS1 car in the 1/4 everything else (traction etc) being equal.

    A 400rwhp automatic with a stall and 3.73's

    A 415rwhp 6spd with a racing clutch, shifter and 4.10's?

a 4l60e isnt going into the 9s. it isnt going into the 10s. it may go into the 11s. that transmission is weak. usually people source a 4l80e for starters. then as they go faster they ditch the 4 speed for a th 400 or a powerglide. faster than that they ditch those for liberty hybrid transmissions that i have little idea how they work. the 4l60e isnt going to go that far at all.

ive beat many of ls1 cars with more power simply because of one thing, my stall.
its hard for a non stalled car to make up the ground lost.

    agreed.

im not as anti six speed as many think.
i used to have an 02 C5 that was an M6.
i just dislike the attitude manual drivers have, you know the its not a sports car unless its a six speed.
