If you want 500hp at the wheels the engine isn't the only thing that you'll need to replace. The rearend will need to go, tranny won't last to long and you'll need a suspension that will be able to handle that kind of power and then put it at the wheels. I'd rather stick with the ls1 even with those miles on it and build from there. But hey it's your car and if you wanna do what you wanna do more power to ya. BTW is this a street/strip car? Good luck!

I agree - rebuilding the LS1 in the car now would be the cheaper/easier/better way to go. I guess that you got the engine through your dad at the dealership? If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for it?
Maybe you could get a computer and wiring harness from a wrecked GTO.

You might have a problem with the fuel set up! not sure if the sensors are the same from the LS1.

Did you get a discount through your dad? Are you gonna put it in yourself??
I would try to get the mechanics at your dads work-that would be the ticket. Also is the warrenty gonna be void because you are not putting the motor in the correct vehicle? Let us know how it goes.

well my father is doing all the work himself , he's using my old ls1 for his motor swap on his 1970 cj5 jeep and he's going to put in the new ls2 in my 99 z28. my 99z no longer has warranty but the new motor has a 3year 32,000 mile on it and that will be fine no matter what car it goes into. Ill keep you all posted and when we start to do it this weekend ill post pics of before and after with the new dyno chart and time slips ..

From what I read on that site they make a LS2 crate motor that comes with a oil pan for a camaro. I guess you will have to buy that oil pan for your project. This site also has a installation kit as well. I dunno may be worth a look. good luck.

I've seen LS-2 go for around 5k to high 4800-4900.. and LS-1 go for 4300 to 4500.. The good thing about the LS-2 is its bore and stroke. you get it with a 4-inch bore so you can put L92 heads and L76 intake on it and get around 500 at the crank. for about 2500. Also you can put LS-7 heads on it and a cam I believe but not to sure about the cam. That's the really advantage to the LS-2 besides the changes to the oil system like where it flows thru the crank and heads. and the coolant ports. the LS-2 is complete different from the LS-1. you couldn't swap your LS-1 to a LS-2. cuz of the diffences in the block also to the senors like the knock senor. You shouldn't have any problems with installing the motor to F-bodie. Cuz all LS power plants fit in LS series cars. You might have to modifie the k-member. But other than that it should go sweet and you will need a different tune.. maybe a different pcm.. Cuz the LS-2 uses (CAN) instead of (OBDII).
