Not to mention the deals on modded lt1s are crazy. I have seen a couple lt1 z28s with fully built engines going for 4-6k. A couple even had the complete powertrain upgraded.

the biggest thing for me personally when i was looking for the car is that on trans ams...the late 4th gens imho looks 1000x better than the lt1 trans ams...i could have dealt with the cluttered and as backwards layout of the lt1s and the opti spark and such....if they looked like a ls1 trans am ...so it was more the looks of the car that sold me ......some times i wish i would have bought a modded out lt1 for about half the price i bought my stock ls1........but then i remember all the looks i get in my car from everyone..even lt1 owners and the fact that i have one of the best...if not the best platform to build off of, with a really strong aftermarket, and the ability with a little wiring work to be able to run any genIII+ engine that makes me swallow that price pill.

Yes but looks are personal preference, all my uncles, dad and there old ass friends like the lt1 front end more. Infact one of them has a black on black 383 stroker 96 or 97 T/A and when i had my ls1 we would park next to eachother all the time and all those old guys always said his body style looked better. They like the fact its not soo agressive with less going on up front.

Not to stir up trouble but there are 350 sbc's that were making 1hp per cube on a carb back in the day right off the assembly line. Just saying. I like the ls1 but it has STILL got some big shoes to fill when comparing it to the legendary square bore sbc 350.. Just my .02 take it for what it's worth..

word. also back in the day engines were underrated for insurance reasons. wayy underrated. but look at now. we have cars running faster than ever while pulling 30+ mpg, with all options including AC. that is the difference.

yupperdoo shampoo. an ls1 nearly cant handle a bore job. however you can bore a 5.3 chevy to an ls1. and those shits are everywhere.

They both have their strong points. And even cost to a certain degree with all the truck engines out there does not play as strong of a factor. I still see in this area more inexpensive LT based engines/cars than the ls based stuff. But the ls series stuff is more responsive to modding and better tunning capabilities. And usually the LT platform can be had for less. I build hotrods for a living and have this conversation a couple times a day at least. It boils down to what do you want, and what are you going to do with the car. I have seen freaks of both cars run great, and terrible. So going off of," I say this is the best" comments may not get you in the end what you are looking for.

i had a 94 Trans Am A4 LT1 with T/tops i absoluetly loved that car,the heads were ported & polished,it had a shift kit in the trans, headers, full exhaust, rebuilt rear end,cam etc.that car was very, very fast,i never had many problems with it because i didn't keep it too long enough to experience the disavantages of owning a LT1 but i sold it to my brother,he was in love with the car also, but i upgraded to a LS1 99 T/A & i have to say the LS1 car would be your best bet,I'm now on my second LS1 car & never will buy a LT1 car again, well i would buy a 96 Impala SS,but would end up putting a LS1,LS2 in it anyway
