You should be able to beat a Goat.

LS2 GTO will be close. It would probably pull it eventually. Should be able to beat the LS1 GTO though.

Might be surprised how well you can hang with LS1 C5 Corvettes. Just don't go trying out the Z06's. C5 or C6.
While the LS2 Corvette will beat you, it shouldn't be a blowout.

    And me.

Stock for stock...there isn't much that runs with the LS1 F-Body.

LS1 Vettes don't have a straightline advantage over an LS1 Camaro. Thats a drivers race stock for stock. LS2, LS6 or LS7 Vettes is a different story however.

Only '03/'04 Cobras have an avantage on LS1 Camaros, pre '03 is a different story.

All this is probably going to change in the next 2-3 years, because the HP wars are in full force again. There is some crazy powertrains being built by the factories that are going to be exceeding stock LS1 Camaro powertrains real soon.

All depends on if it is a 1/4 mile race or from a roll.
    1/4 mile:
The Viper is the only car listed that you most likely will get smoked.
The rest run simular times as a F Body and is a drivers race.
    From a roll:
Then it comes down to is the F Body a M6, since they have better ratio for higher speed races,
But the Viper still would walk all over the F Body
Cobra, should pull a few car lengths pretty good.
Vette, anything is possible, but will be very close
LS2 GTO, if auto, then you should be dead even or pull some
LS2 GTO M6, should pull away some

Very hard to tell, since some F Body's are just faster then others. Also, options like gears make a difference, lighten non optioned cars sometimes run better, if the guy building the LS1 was having a good day or factory tune was good. My factory tune sucked, so any of those cars listed would have beat me.

Unless he misses a gear or two.... Then YOU walk all over HIM! And the stupid ass look on his face when you BRAKE to let him see you.

how could a factory tune differ? How can you tell, just by dyno numbers or what?

I could tell my tune was off since I gained so much from a handheld tuner. 23 rwhp hp from just a canned handheld tune is a lot and out of the norm. Every car dyno's a little different due to many things... My 284 rwhp stock #'s were low for a 2002.

Is there any advantages of getting a GTO over the Camaro, im debating becasue I might be getting an LS1 or LS2 GTO over a 98-02 Fbody. But I do not know much about the GTO, what kind of rear axel do they have? Is it weak like the fbody 7.5 inch? Are they easier to mod? Ect. ect.

One bummer about the GTO is the tire size cannot be anything large. They are like 245's or something close to that, and you can't stuff anything under it. I like the first year gto though with no hood scoops, looks very much like a sleeper.

Independent rearend sucks,,,,they can be modified to take some abuse but it takes mucho money,,,,and you are still stuck with the independent rearend,,,they stink for straight line drag racing.

The Fbody isn't much better in this department for the simple reason the 7.5 inch rear was a big mistake by GM as well. It will break with stock power levels if it hooks. But at least it's a solid axle and can be easily upgraded with a drop in 12 bolt or 9 inch,,,,but again,,,,you are talking at least $2,000 for one ready to go.
It's really a crap shoot, both have good and bad points. Really comes down to what you really want to do with the car. For something to just drive and enjoy you really can't go wrong with either one.

The GTO feels more refined and comfortable and handles nice around corners.
The F body is better looking in my opinion, better for straight line racing, but not as comfortable or refined. Modding both cars are basically the same.

I've raced a wrx sti. it was even until we got to about 80+. They have a lot of drivetrain loss through the awd once they hit higher speeds.

I like autocross/road racing. The stock GTO's that I've seen on any autoX/Road course have had terrible body roll. I don't know, though, how much or how little modification is required to fix their body roll though.
