Honestly, your best best is a stroker if you want N/A power. Once you start looking at 450RWHP with the stock bottom end, you push the limits of the motor and the streetability of the car. Requires a fairly good sized cam to get there.

You should be a little lighter than the Cobra, which will help a little bit.

I never said it wasn't the best bang for buck.
Just my opinion on it is all.

It works very well, for a great price.

    heads and cam

check out some head and cam kits or make one ,maybe stroke your motor and juice it you wont have a problem and you could probably come close too the price of a charger and shouldnt even need n20 to beat just about anything

trick flow claims there kits can do 515horses on stock ls1 i think all u need is a better intake manifold

I would assume that's 515 at the crank, and not helping out...

There are EXTREME H/C combinations that can yield close to 500, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the streetability afterwards...

Generally speaking, you have 3 options:
    1) Increase Cubes, be it a stroked 346, resleeve the stock block and go big-bore, or have something else put together for you (408ci LQ9 anyone?)
    2) Forced induction, blower or hairdryers, just read up before you ask questions; there's tons of info out there, just acknowledge that final cost is always much greater than the cost of the FI kit... In my opinion, if you're going FI, you should start by going forged internals to accomodate far beyond your present goals
    3) Spray it. I'm running a fairly medium cam with stock heads and on motor, I can hang with the majority of cobras; if I stumble across a kenne, I've got a switch for that. And if I still can't hang, I'm not going to be ashamed; in my modest territories, anything that can hand me my arse gets my respect!
    She's baaaaaccccck...

IF you are going FI i personally would go turbo, although a procharger d1sc pushing 20 psi will be putting down ~750+.

if you dont want that, then realign your thinking. if you know that you need x amount of power to run a 3600 pound cobra, concentrate your efforts in getting the most usable power in the lightest possible way. if you have the money, go light. new k member, control arms, new rear (no 9 inch unless you dont care about the weight). trust me, you can strip these f bodies down and still have a full interior. think about your suspension set up. get a healthy heads/cam package and see where it gets ya.

it depends on the whipple in question also....more details please.

    where to get trick flow

summit has the kit for $3,000.00 with that and a few more cubes you shouldnt have a problem, then you still have spray, however like the man said it really does depend on which charger they have some of them things are capable of a thousand horsepower with supporting mods

A whipple charged Cobra isn't a normal Cobra. Power output can vary, but most are at least 575RWHP.

Rebuild the motor, with new everything, lifters, cams, crankshaft heads, everything then throw in a procharger and you should be fine. Most people forget that you can get a lot of power from good crankshaft. Problem is I dont find many of them for the LS1s

The LS1 crankshaft is fairly stout in stock form.
Depending on your application, you can use the stocker with some forged rods and pistons.

With the right headscam and intake combinations one could get to about 420-430 on an ls1. Add a shot od nitrious you would be near the 500 hp mark. But the reality is that cube will beat anything. and I know that their are people that might argue this but the more cubes you have the more you get out. It realy is noy the horse power that one should consern yourself with but more of a high flat torque curve. A 402 cubic inch is a good starts.

I have 4g's saved right now, but i don't plan on ending it there. I want to make my car capable of 10's within the not so distant future.
