The only answers you're probably going to get here is not to do a swap. Sell your car and buy and V8. As hard as the swap is, it probably wouldn't make a difference if you went with the LS1 or the LT1. Physically though, the LS1 will fit no problem.

it will fit and i would go with the ls1 cause it have a little more power and it's newer than a lt1. It would be easier if you get a donor car with the motor you want and drop the engine cradle then drop the cradle in the v6 then take the parts off the v8 car.

not going to lie, it will be a lot of work and expensive. you have to upgrade, wiring harnesses, PCM, complete front and rear suspension, the engine itself (whether you choose an LT1 or Ls1), drivetrain (didnt say if you had an a4 or m6 and what you would want to make the v8 be), exhaust system...

the time it would take you to invest in such a venture it would be easier to just sell the v6 and buy a v8...

dont get me wrong, it can be done, but how much are you willing to invest in doing and making sure the job is 100% done and done right?

I second all that, its not the 60s where you can drop just about any gm engine in any car. Those days are gone and this would be a very hard project for you. Goodluck though with whatever you decide to do.

I agree with the above two posts wholeheartedly. I made this mistake myself with a mustang I owned before. Its going to cost you way too much and take way too long. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!!!!

    ...But it can be done!

Unless you do the work yourself I would not do it, garages will jack up the prices becasue it will be a pain in the ass, its not that big of a deal that people say it is. Yes its very time consuming and is quiet a bit of work that has to be done so yea if your going to do it more power to you, just do it yourself.

I thought the redesign of the front end with the higher fenders on the 98 was for increased room under the hood for the LS1.

I have heard that too about the LS1, it is taller than LT1. I would go LT-1 for sure if you do it, goodluck!

i have talk to a mechanic about doing the swap a couple of time and he said that the only parts you need to upgrade is wiring harnesses, pcm, motor, exhaust and maybe trans if wanted.

I if were you I would just forget about the whole swap idea and just get a F-body with a V8 in it. The swap isn't impossible or anything but there is too much that you will have to change and unless you plan to doing the work yourself it will cost an arm and a leg not to mention what can possibly go wrong. But hey if you wanna do what you wanna do then you gonna do what you wanna.
