How can you tell where your LS1 came from??

Hello fellow LS1 member!!! I had a quick question. Is there any where on the ls1 motor that would have a number on the engine that could tell me what car this motor came out of??? Reason is because someone is trying to sell me a ls1 and he clames it came out of a 2001 corvette but i rather just run the number myself... Please help thanks!!!

I would try a local Chevy dealer, I'm sure there are part numbers (vin) on the block that would have a history.

Who ever is trying to sell you the car is trying to play with you. Regardless of what where it came from an LS1 is an LS1. Just because the Corvette's are more expensive then camaros doesn't mean the motor is going to automatically be better and more "high class".

But anyways give us the details on the car and how much is he selling it for?

Is it a car you are looking to buy or just a motor? I understood it as a LS1 motor you were looking to get and the guy said it was out of a Vette.

Engine from Corvette would have a different oil pan and throttle body. Among other things.

isn't the alternator on the front-top of the motor in the Vette's and on the front-bottom in Camaros/Birds/GTO?

    Vette

    Camaro/Bird/GTO

Also, an LS1 is an LS1.. either way it kicks ass..

yea well the alternator can be moved, its not a problem. I seen plenty of camaros and birds that have the alternator relocated to the top
