How can I tell a true SS hood?
Long story short, I bought a 99 motorhome and when I went to the guys house he had a ton of interior/exterior parts from a 2002 SS Camaro, he said he would throw them in for $300 extra so I took all of them. The SS hood is the most important, I need to know what to look for. Says made in Canada on the bottom of the hood, has a etched area with #'s and letters, just need to know what to look for, thanks.

Well i think the stock ones are metal and the aftermarket ones are usually fiberglass.
Also I think most camaros were made in canada too so maybe the hood really is the stock one

I have a 02 Z28, so I know the difference in a SS and stock hood. I also have a ebay fiberglass 98-02 SS hood in my garage and now a 02 SS hood that is supposed to be a real one. I also know the real SS hoods are made from a injected molded process, but when painted it looks the same as fiberglass, so I need to know what #'s etc under the hood to look for in determining if it is a real SLP SS hood. I bought a ebay SS hood knockoff a year ago from a friend, but I didn't want to put a crap fiberglass hood on the car and have it crack..With having a silver car, they have to blend the front and fenders to make it all match and if I ever wanted to go back to stock, then the hood would not match, so I want a true SS hood that will hold up over time.

Thanks! I can't believe the deal the guy gave me, for $300 extra he gave me the SS hood, rear panel(camaro one) I may turn it into a berger panel. Complete steering wheel with keys and all perfect condition including the airbag.. front and rear leather seats.. perfect condition T tops with brand new shade covers that still have the velcro on them from GM, and about every interior part available(plastic), console, speaker covers, sailpanel etc...a box with well over 75 pounds of interior pieces. Now I need to go through it and see what to keep and sell.

that is a great deal, and i also think that most custom/aftermarket hoods dont have #'s on them, but not really sure

Looks just like the OEM hood I bought a few months back. Thats the real deal my friend. you got a great steal on those parts. I had to pay 500 just for my hood and I was still pretty happy at that low of a price. Good find!
I got lucky and mine was already factory painted black and even matched my paint.

Yea it is the real deal, the number's and letters etched in under the hood stab. arm bracket is a tell, SS spoiler has them too. I also believe the way the lip folds around the bottom edges of the hood is also unique to factory. Great find, paid $800.00 for my silver one. If you got the leather seats too as in the picture I envy you, I have 1500.00 in my hood and leather seats alone.
