    Holy crappy paint job Batman!

Just got my car painted by a local guy, and man did he ever
screw it up! I guess it's my own fault for tryin to get it done cheaper
that a big shop would charge, but $1800 didn't seem that cheap to me.
He did do a decent job on the stripe though, now if he had only done
that good a job on the rest....

    Sadly now demodded :(

$1800 might be cheap depending on what was done. Crappy is crappy though. By way of example, I expect to have to pay about $10K to paint and reassemble my 67 Camaro. I'm having several different folks come by this weekend to guesstimate it.

i may be able to hook you up with a great paint guy. he could probably fix it.

The paint feels smooth, and it looks fine from a distance, but there's alot of orange peel, paint is dull in some places and shiny in others, plus there a some pits in the clearcoat. There are a few runs that were not wet sanded out also. I'm hoping it can be fixed, and I think it can, it just sucks to have to do.

I have a few pics, but they're not close enough to see the problems, and imageshack won't let me hotlink, so sorry no pics.

And yes I'm in Mo. I live a mile from Bagnell Dam.

    paint

yeah, I've seen that alot - done alot of painting myself. Sounds like he did not prep the surface properly, and did not how to use/adjust the gun properly if he got orange peel going. There's a nice darker red color I want to paint my car, but I'm going to do it myself when I have the time.

Thats a cheap price for a paint job. Hell the materials alone can run you $2,000 depending on what you use. By the time you by all the thinners and reducers, color, clear, primers etc....some of that stuff can be as much as $500 a gallon,,,again,,,depending on what you use.

Average paint jobs for a car, to do jambs and all are usually $8-10,000 and even more around my area. Thats complete dissassembly and doing it right. Shopping around may get you less, but quality becomes an issue.

If you have enough material left to wet sand some more and it comes out looking good, then I say you got off cheap. Larry.
