    High mileage help

Considering building an ls1 camaro head /cam. Found an auto pretty cheap but 160k miles, seems to run good. Can probably get it for 4k. What kinda cost gonna take to make it a reliable head cam car? Any advice welcome.

there's really no magic number on mileage that I've seen for these cars.....plenty of people running high mileage cars down the track. Me personally though at 160k I'd be pretty leary of sinking a ton of cash into it. What year is the motor? Maintenance would also play a big role into how good that motor still is. Pricing for heads/cam really depends mostly on what heads you go with. The heads alone can make or break a budget. I'd guess $2000+ for a budget heads/cam set up while some you can spend just that on heads. You also have to factor in a lot of other mods. Headers, tuning, possibly injectors, fuel pump, ect ect. Rear for the car is another couple thousand. It gets pricey in a hurry if you start at the bottom and do it right.
My suggestion would be to look for a lower mileage car that has at least the base mods done....would save you some time and money in the long run. I figure everything said and done I probably roughly have $10k in mine on the stock tranny with just a stall and cooler added.

In addition to how well it was maintained... how hard it has been driven (irrespective of looks) is certainly a factor. My primary concern would be the transmission with that many miles on it.

Don't forget the clutch (if manual) and suspension. Miles play havoc on everything, not just the motor.
