I have done this before but after a year the headlights fogged back up, not as bad as when I first got it so I just used the turtle wax rubbing compound, polish and meguiars plastic x. Used a drill and pad to work in the polishes. Came out nice, it will never be 100% again but better than it was.

Not a recent pic but it's some sort of before for comparison

    After today

They look very good I agree. Although it's really not necessary to remove the headlights for the job. Just tape everything off to avoid damaging the paint. There are no obstructions. Mine came out looking brand new. I can't imaging devoting the time to removing/installing them just for a polishing, but still, good work.

lolz there is one bolt and 2 plugs for the lights that need to be done to remove them. I used a pad and electric drill so no matter what polish would have ended up somewhere on the car

Your car is to new to need that, if anything try and stay away from sandpaper. Once you use it you'll never get all the little scratches it leaves behind. They aren't terribly noticeable as not seen in my pic, but try the plastic-x with a high speed polisher first and work your way back if you need to.

What's wrong with polishing the headlights you got?
As for aftermarket tail lights there is no such thing.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, it took me almost exactly an hour per light, thats from opening the hood to closing the hood after they were done and installed. The only thing that took time was making this write up.

And it would be harder IMO to sand the lights while on the car, you wouldn't be able to get the edges as well or sand it as evenly. And removing the nipples would be a bitch.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys!

I have a 97 GTP, lights have been done once already. they need it again, bad. 2 save time , I'll probably start with 600 and go up wetsanding until I'm happy with it, then go compound, then plastic polish. I may do a before and after pic.

Just thought I'd add, if you put a layer of wax on your headlights after you do this, they will stay clear longer.
