Oh and for the main topic, just need to practice more. If your running stock wheels and tires you should be able to burn 1st 2nd and scratch 3rd.

Even if you have ASR (my 98 does and my 02 doesn't) you can turn it off anytime you like.

Chirp second? My stock A4 will fishtail if I stay hard on the gas when it shifts- on dry pavement- I don't even try in the wet, it would get to squirrley

285/40-17 BF Goodriches, with a 3.42 posi axle-

I used to have an LT1-powered caprice, with 4.10's and shift kit that would chrip 3rd at about 75 if you held it to the floor- nice way to come down a merge ramp and enter traffic- that was 275/60-15's and an Eaton posi-

I have an m6, and I can put up a smoke screen 1/8th of a mile long in 1, 2, and 3 if it tickles me to do so. Bring your car by my place, I'll show ya how to crush some gears

I have to buddies with badass older trucks, ones running a 383 stroker and the other has a sprayed 400 with posi. I think both are running turbo 350's for trannies, (A4), they can light up the rear tires anytime they feel like it. The 400 doesnt hook up at all, all the way down the quarter mile, even with posi, slicks and traction bars

My '98 AT 2.73 would sometimes chirp 2nd gear, one time in 2000 I mashed the loud pedal right next to a Chrysler engine plant as the workers were getting out. It went to first, tires making good noises, and when 2nd hit it was a loud chirp. The looks on 3 guys faces were priceless. Chrysler was not making RWD cars back then, except the Viper.

My '00 WS6 feels like it goes 2 or 3 feet sideways on the shift to 2nd at the drag strip, but watching video it barely moves to the right. Also, I can hear the tires squawk in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

TH350 and TH400 are both A3 tranny's as they have 3 forward gears, none of which are an overdrive gear.

my 95z A4 would get second hard pretty much stock...great feeling. My 2000ss m6 chirps second less but she has 17" wheels.
pavement makes a difference as well. By my work there is a patch of road where i can roll the ss up to 10 to 15mph and stomp the gas and she will break loose without touching the clutch...tried that trick at other spots..no can do...if you find a spot like that..can really impress the bro's..
coworker wont ride with me anymore..hahahahaha

^ Swapped gear set or swapped axle assembly? I swapped the whole axle assembly when I went from 2.73's to 3.42's. I now have 3.73's.

If smoking your tires is what you want to do then I would sugest an aftermarket clutch. I my '99 Z28 with traction control off I can smoke the tires 1st, 2nd, then chirp 3rd while the car is trying to lift. With tractional control I can get the second gear scratch. The stock stock clutch isn't designed for heavy launches. I don't remeber which clutch I had put in, but I do remeber that it is good for up to 650hp at rear wheels. It cost me about $1600.00 to have my local GM dealer to install it for me. I was lucky cause I new the owner of dealership and purchased clutch at his cost. If you do decide to up grade I reconmend replacing the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder! Mine went out shortly after (master).

If you decide to put the heavier clutch in and you have it broke in and want to try doing some heavy launching, try to shift through the gears without letting the loud pedal off the floor. Once you are able to do that you are now fully tuned into your car. Doing this type of launch is one of the coolest feelings you ever experience! It's all about having fun with your machine! Good luck!

Drove the 02 to work today. Did a nice 10-60 run on the way back from lunch. Automatic downshift to 1st (from 2nd) and the car lights up the tires and goes sideways (had to counter steer to get back straight). Upshift to 2nd and back end squirells to the left. And this is in 113 degree heat. Small industrial street so I lifted at that point. I <3 my car.
