    Currently own 1995 Z28 (Silver-Automatic) - BONE STOCK!!!
    Recently purchased 2001 Z28 (Black-6 Speed) - 3" Flowmasters and
other misc stuff. This, bad traction (2.21 60') and missed 3-4 shift
netted me 13.46 sec in the 1/4 mile. . .

I've done it, I have pics from the install. It was actually rather easy given my somewhat extensive mechanical history. If you want some tips and think you're up for it let me know I'll scan what I have and send them to you. Heck, if you're close enough we can work something out, it only takes about 4 hours.

I guess I could answer the initial question also, when I did mine all the parts cost me about $400 from a totalled 01 V6. 4 hour install, no leaks whatsoever and it looked so good no one could tell they weren't factory. If you do it or have it done, please be kind enough to the car to install subframe connectors, I never installed them on my '97 Z (the car I t-topped) when I had it and I never had any problems but I in no way recommend being cheap like I was and skimping on subframes.

i had an 84 monte that i made an 88 ss, and had tops put in, it cost 1,600.00 i look back now and i gave the car to my brother and say wow 1,600.00 for a few years of fun in the sun. not really worth it know. but then i thought it was the best investment. lol, young and high school grad. money. if you have the money do it i guess, but you will think about it later if you get rid of the car. thanks jeremy

I'm going to do it as well. To do the conv. it usually costs about $400 total. I've heard some people do it for less. I'm going to try to do mine before summer. Since it gets so god alful hot here.

I know this is an old thread but I recently found this excellent write-up and since this thread is bumped I'll post it anyway.

PS- I know it's on tech, but it's worth looking at

Do your self a favor and buy a T-top car.Hardtop cars are a completely different roof. They in no way are anything like a Fourth Gen car.Its going to require lot more effort and there are plenty of people who want a hardtop car for racing/performance.Besides they tend to leak, and that is speaking from experience.

    what experience?

all 4th gens start as t-tops. the frame is the same, then the tack weld in the hard top pieces, which we just have to cut out, then add the trim pieces.
