Your car should not have come with a governor if it is an SS. Your engine has a built in rev limiter that is in the range of 6000rpm but is the only limits given to an ss package. Typical GM governors limit vehicles to 97mph. In the case of my z28 which did not come from the factory with z rated tires was governed to 115 mph which is very rare.

    Sadly now demodded :(

The "governer" is a part of the PCM's programming and can be altered and/or deleted.

IIRC, the engine is programmed with a fuel shutoff at 6,000 rpm and the top speed is limited to 150 something. Both can be changed with HPTuners or the like.

The top speed was governed by the type of tires the car came with. All SS's came with Z rated tires. Most Z's had Z rated tires also but they did offer a version of the Z28 with a lower performance tire where they allowed (thru PCM programming) a top speed of only 115 as this was what the tire was safely rated at.

V6 versions of the F-bodies had top speed limited to tire performance also.

And Hottub, the color of your car is "pewter"....

I like my spelling better cause it always looked like it could be pronounced poo-ter when i had it the right way.
