well yeah your correct about the z28 thing in the sixtys the only reason there was a car because one of the rules of the trans am series is there had to be car availiable to the public..

as for the racing in my ss, its a little harder to get a race, but the intimidation factor makes up for it in joy to me!

i always ask" hey wanna race" they allways look at the fender and say "no way thats an ss" i just laugh!

pewter does look cool in person, thanks camarojunky74
this is what most people on the street say or think "I killed a Z28 last night y0, Do I have a chance against the SS?" they think the SS has like 50hp+ on the z28 thats why they dont want to race the SS

Back in the day of the first-gens the Z28 was actually top model over the SS. The newer SS does cosmetically look better than the Z28, but does that mean the Z28 should lose its respect of being a camaro just becasue its not an SS?

Im with you the Z28 should not loose its respects over the SS, most Fbod owners respect it and know what's up with them, but most ricers or mustangs dont know the deal until they get pwned by one

OR...I could buy a Z28,,take my badges off and put an SS hood and SS Spoiler on it and someone who half way knows cars would think.."ohh wow an SS I dont want to race him he will whoop me". That would be kind of like the Formula losing respect because its not a Trans Am (not trying to be a smartass)

hmmmmm? you might wanna do some research.

the z28 got a 305 its first year in production and was rated at 290 hp which yes was underated but was nowhere near performance marks that the ss was with the option of the 396 big block also could get aluminum heads and a 4 speed with 4.10 posi trac rear.

sorry bro the ss has always been "better" then the z28, even thou the z28 was rarer in the 60's then the ss thats the way it stands

Oh how little todays youth know. The 1st gen Z28 was created to satisfy a homologation rule then in effect for SCCA Trans Am racing. That being that you had to have a car for sale to the public sporting an engine/tranny combo that was under 5 liter displacement and was also the basic engine/tranny combo used by the racers. Certain mods were allowed but the engine could not exceed 5 liters (305 cid) displacement. IIRC all 67 Z28's (602 total) were built within a 2 month time frame (Dec & Jan I believe) to be able to qualify for the 1967 series. 602 were built because the factory had to have a minimum of 500 available for sale. Z28 was merely the next RPO code used to designate the model. Hardly anybody back in the day outside of the racing community knew about this in 67 as it wasn't promoted much. 68 and especially 69 were a different story as 23,xxx 69 Z28's were made as they were heavily promoted due to racing wins (the old win on Sunday sell on Monday theory). The 67 YM had no external badging and not all of them had racing stripes. Most had very little in the way of "creature comforts". Hardly the "Top Dog" model.

AAMOF, the only reason a 396 BBC Camaro was created in Nov-Dec of 66 was to compete with Ford puting an FE 390 in the Mustang.

Minor correction: Although todays 305 is a 5 liter engine it is very dis-similar to the 302 that was used in 67-69. For the Z28's engine the bore of 4" was derived from the 327 and the stroke of 3" was derived from the 283. This allowed the use of a variety of "off the shelf" parts. The "305" has a bore and stroke of 3.74 x 3.48 which has the 350's crank in common.

That's ricer mentality, don't care how you explain, justify or validate it. If it din't come from the factory that way, it's bullshit.
    But that's just my opinion
You speak of it not coming from the factory that way, but in your sig you talk about Mods. It didnt come from the factory that way, did it?

Not that I condone somebody trying to sell a Z as an SS, but what really makes an SS an SS? I am talking about the 4th gen, not 1st or second. Trying to sell a Z as an SS is definately wrong, but to clone one is not terrible, I dont think, as long as you disclose it. I wouldnt do it, and if you do a V6 you deserve to get spanked by a Honda, but to say nobody can do it is kinda bullshit. It is their car and their money. Would I make fun of a V6 with SS badges, absolutely, but a Z with SS badges, well a lot of Zs end up faster and nicer than a true SS anyway.

I like the SS hood and rear spoiler, and will probably put them on my Z. I am thinking about getting 1st gen Z28 badges though. Mine is not a 1st gen, so will it enrage somebody? I dont care, I think I will like the way it looks. I am considering a cowl hood too, but most are just ridiculously big. I want something subtle.

To me its kind of about heritage and keeping it real. So you wanted an SS but couldnt afford it or couldnt find one or whatever the case may be, so you make your Z look like one. Whatever floats your boat. But as a Camaro enthusiast who has been riding in Camaros all of my life, I would just feel guilty trying to pass my ride off as an SS if it wasnt. Moreso than that, when you tell a real Camaro enthusiast that its an SS and he looks deeper and sees that it isnt, youre gonna lose any credability that you may have had. The SS is the flagship of the Camaro name and a certain level of respect comes in owning one. If youre making your Z look like an SS youre taking credit where no credit is due, and there isnt any honor in that in my book. If you drive a Z, keep it a Z, and be proud of it.

I never said I had anything against enhancing the vehicle, simply disagree with lying about its origins I installed a LS6 cam, I don't call my car a Corvette.

If your Z is so much better than an SS, why in the hell would you attempt to make it an SS ? Anyone that knows the F-Body platform knows what a Z and an SS share and don't share... So all this fuss is really to impress some Skittle driver or Hondahunter Yota ?

I think your right, if I had a Z28 I would be DAMN proud of it and it's heritage.. I do like the look of the SS hood and spoiler, thats why I bought it.
NOT because it's faster. Not because it's better, because I liked it.
Put it this way, you meet a chick with a KILLER body, you hook up, get her home and her 36 D chest is a couple of Lift Up cups and a push-up bra, her 27 " waist is a serious control top girdle ... Same thing to me

Honestly, I bought my car for the color. I didnt want a normal color, which most SS cars come in. I really wanted a convertible, but the color, price and options made it hard to resist. It has nothing to do with not being able to afford a real SS. I looked at several in red, black and white. And some people would say that an SS appearance package is an enhancement on a Z28 just like your cam is on your SS. I dont personally agree totally, but Like I said I do like the hood and spoiler. Would I put SS badges on my car, no way, but if someone else does it, I dont care. I mean really, most people upgrade their suspension and exhaust and intake anyway on a Z28, making them pretty much the same. Anybody that cares allready knows this, making the Z28 just as intimidating. If you are driving a Honda and dont know, then you deserve what the Z28 gives you.

okay well if putting ss badges on a v6 is stupid, well so is doing this to an z28, the point is ss enthusiasts paid top dollar for what they got, and to be undermined by a copy cat who couldnt afford an ss is BULLSHIT!

here's what im saying. everyone was taught when they were little that lying was not right, when does this rule stop applying to cars, it doesnt,

if you start cloning z's into ss, when will it stop, pretty soon my favorite cars legacy and demand for respect will be compromised by people who dont see a problem with doing this.

so... those who clone are worse then buying a v6 imo, buy the real thing end of story!!!!!

just to make things worse, i just bought a slp ss with all the options, 345 etc... auburn carrier anyways, last week while driving i saw a black z, and the guy asked me what i had done i said its bone stock, then he asked where i got the badges, like i bought them and put them on, i said its real, he said ohh, kind of stunned how much did you pay, i replied how much for yours he said 8k, but he wants to get the badges like mine cause they look cool.

i just rolled up my window, this was when i was in my 02 ss,

Not to start a feud but isn't an LS1 SS a z28 off the production line with a few bolt-ons?? Correct me if I'm wrong but take those bolt-ons off and you have the same thing?? Therefore a z28 + bolt-ons = SS. Also, a true SS origins was a Z28. So I have no problem with a Z28 representing as an SS since that is what a SS is, a Z28 with SS Package. (However to sell or claim that it is a factory SS is WRONG). So if you had a red camaro and painted black, then I guess you can not call it a black camaro because factory it was red?? In reference to the chick statement above, take the bolt-ons off and they are the same other than GM's HP rating lol. I too think the SS package is sharp as hell, that's why I have OEM parts on my camaro and why most other's do the same is because "they liked it" and "to enhance it".

Now putting SS or Z28 badges on a V6 is wrong because it is a freaking V6, but anything else I can not bash IMO.

Like I said I mean no harm or disrespect but I have noticed on this issue that the overwhelming majority whom bash Z28 SS clone are those whom have the build number!!!

The reason I don't have the factory SS is because of damn insurance rates and I want to customize it like I want it. The true SS car will or should I say is a collectors car, and modding it will only decrease the value of it to a collector. Plus GM slaps SS badges on whatever they want these days and the money saved will allow me to do some serious mods And lets face it, GM set the bar for body mods for our cars with the SS package, if I thought there was a nicer hood or spoiler out there, then I wouldn't have the SS spoiler, hood, and Zr1's Although the Zo6's have my eye

IMO as long as it is a Lsx or Ltx.....it is all good!!!!!

okay well think of it this way, you have a guy, then he gets a sex change to a she, walks talks and acts like a she but deep down its still a he.

do you think any guy would want to be with "it" the answer is no, i know that its probably a bad example but this is how i feel.

and secondly i dont know how you got the idea that an ss oriiginated from a z, since hmm i dunno there was ss before theere was a camaro!

furthermore obviously a z is only a few bolt ons away from an ss, so making it real besides the numbers isnt a hard feat, BUT the vin Numbers nevver lie.

and your right the guys who foot the bill for an authentic ss are going to say that cloning is fucking ridicouould because why did we spend the money we did just to be undermind by some dumb ass guy!

now the camaro has an reputaition of JOe dirt drivers, the only thing cloners do is add to this bad rap,

everything is wrong with cloning because its fake you lie and you then decrease the value and reputation of the real thing!

let me correct myself. (talking about 4th gens now).

A V6 camaro with SS hood, SS wing, and SS badges...yes..thats extremely gay.

But a Z28 with an SS hood, SS wing, and Z28 badges...I like...is that bad?
