Either way, this old fart still calls them glass, plastic, or whatever your taste is. In any event, they are still pretty darn heavy for what they are made of. Pretty stout hood.

They are fiberglass. Friend of mine had an intercooled vortec blower and the instructions that came with it said it had to be trimmed for the intercooler to fit. It was trimmed on the underside where the air ducts turn to go into the air box and made the ram air part of the hood useless. Kinda sucks but Id have done it too. 10lb blower or ram air, hmmmm....

Ouch!! As expensive and hard to find as the OEM hoods are I think I would have bought aftermarket and cut that first, save the OEM piece for another day.

    you are wrong.

however, let me help you with a positive response, so ther is no way a forum rule gets broken with what i say.

all SS hoods were/are fiberglass. all other hoods (non-SS) were metal from the factory and were used on v6 and z28 Camaros. i hope with this knowledge i, and others have shared will put this mis-information to rest.

i believe its a combination of fiberglass, and composite re-inforced fiberglass plastic (RFP). when broken, or chunked off, you can see the fiberglass strands along with what appears to be some sort of polyurathyne plastic as well, for additional strength and flexibility. other 'composite' panels on our cars are "similar" but not entirely the same make-up. make sense?
