I can tell you that the cheapest way is to visit one of our sponsors if you're going to be purchashing a new motor. Forget the LS1, go with an LS6 instead for about $3 large at www.crateenginedepot.com Remember the motor drops out through the bottom the easiest, so you may want to take it to a shop for that, especially if you don't have a garage, like myself. Note: the LS6 I quoted you is a replacement motor for people who already have a LS1 motor, you would still need to purchase additional items such as intake, exhaust, water pump, etc... they do sell a complete "turn key" LS6 motor but it runs around $4700.00 if I remember correctly. Good luck!

screw the ls6...get a built lq9 longblock 402-408 and they are beasts texas-speed has them for you. if your going to do it..do it right and get the lq9 or even the lq4 and take it to a shop like my man mr.hyde said.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
IMHO, the "cheapest" way is to sell the V6 and use the $$$ to buy a V8 car. You're gonna need a heck of a lot more than just an engine to do the swap. Accessory drives, wire harness and PCM top the list.
I'm not being negative I'm just being real. For the total cost of the swap you can buy a V8 car and have the $$$ from selling the V6 car for mods.

Don't get me wrong, it can be done but it's not a job for the inexperienced or faint of heart.
