Drove the Z home on DRs in the snow...

I bet before you even entered this thread you were thinking "What the..." or perhaps "Not this idiot again...." Yes sir, it's me again

Not by choice. GF had kids to drop off at school this last Wednesday morning, and although we work for the same company, I leave at 4am. TOTALLY forgot about the snow the last few days prior, as my hours have been extremely long the past 2 weeks because of workload. To make a long story short, I actually got back to the shop at a reasonable hour, and left the parking lot, as it had barely began a dusting. The GF was also able to leave early, as we live 46 miles from work. 24 of those miles are interstate. The rest consists of about 20 miles of long county roads, 2 lanes each way.

I got stuck at one stop light, slightly uphill. Luckily, because the pewter car is a 2000 model, I was able to pull the second gear start, and feather it. After sliding 5 or 6 times, it finally began to creep :uhoh: That was the only trouble I had. Pictures below show the average speed of myself and everyone else. Saw a 350Z that I tore up the day before on my home, in the median, car sideways. Wasn't able to snag a picture of that. He flew by me a few minutes prior and revved it up

Call me an idiot for driving on DRs, I expect such comments to be posted, but being the defensive driver that I am when conditions call for it, I made it home 3 hours later. Needless to say, DRs were taken off that same night when I get home

Oh, and here's where the tires went...

Just glad you made it alright, my friend

We had an ice storm here in OK the day I got my car. Started literally right after my test drive... I had to drive it to work the next day. 50 miles one way, on a solid sheet of ice....with summer tires. I made it just fine driving very defensively (2 hours late lol). Actually got some of my fellow employees in trouble unintentionally due to the fact that they lived 45 miles closer than me and didn't show up, and here I am pulling up in my Camaro SS They hated me for that, but I got some respect from the boss

Glad I'm not the only one

We have another big one coming, supposed to start tomorrow night. Luckily, I'll be driving the Yukon, that I just paid $730 to have new tires put all the way around on

We have a system coming through down here tonight and tomorrow.. Supposed to drop an inch or two of freezing rain, then anywhere from 6-12" inches of snow with up to 30mph winds....craziness. Especially since it was just 73 on Friday...

Glad you made it home in one piece.
    And your not alone.
I didn't have drag radials, just bald summer tires. It turned my normally 20 minute drive into about 90 minutes. And the only place I had a problem was on a street with a hill at a stoplight.

In 2000, if your equipped with an automatic, if you manually put it in second gear, the trans will start off in second. I've done it to save gas before, that's one of the things that contributed to my best tank of 25.5mpg

Anyways, this feature started in 2000. My '99 won't do it, as I've tried a few times. Doesn't really matter, I could care less, but on wednesday of last week, it sure came in handy

Yeah, that's when I put mine in 2nd gear, and couldn't hardly depress the right pedal without spinning. Slid sideways about 5 or 6 times before I saw my speedometer give me a constant speed... let my momentum carry me the rest of the way.

Later on that evening, I had it in Drive, let off the brakes as the light turned green, and without even hitting the gas, the rear started sliding to the right. I dropped that thing in second real fast

DRs are pretty good as long as you have throttle control..ive drove in big rain storms were cars were pulled over and roads were flooded..and i made it fan..

Much easier to feather through it with a 6-speed Sucks butt on the hills though, smell that clutch burn..

Will the shit stains come out of your britches... or did you just throw them away when you finally got home?
