DAMN THE AWD's!
Alright i got myself a problem. For a while i was the fast car on the block and it felt great but now i got some competition. 2 of my friends just got new cars. One is a 2005 EVO VIII MR, and the other is a 2004 Pink edition STI. As of right now we are still a pretty close race but they are gonna beat me pretty soon. I have a 1998 Z28 T-56. I have a K&N FIPK, SLP Loud Mouth 1, Hypertech, C-5 vette rims 275's rear 245's front. Short throw, ZO6 clutch kit fromt he fred beans site, and all the free mods. From a roll i eat them alive they dont have anything. But off the line they shoot off so quick it takes forever to catch them. Traction is a huge issue for me but i think its going to take more power to keep up with these guys in the long run. Anyone got any recommendations on mods that dont cost an arm and a leg so i can keep up with them?? Oh i also have an eibach 2" drop, tubular rear LCA's and aftermarket sway bars.

lol i actually have the same problem as you. differnce is i have a 99 camaro z28 t56 with stock rims.. so my rear tires are 245.. lol im burning it up and chirping like hell in every gear. but i agree, radials would be awsome... but if your just looking for power, how about long tube headers and ory? with a tune u might get another 25 hp. bore your MAF and throttle body too. I bored my MAF and i really felt it after. But u might have done that already with your free mods... and if u do the headers switch to msd wires and ngk55s

Def get headers & an offroad Ypipe man! Traction problems? Lower control arms, Torque Arm, & some Drag Radials will keep the power to the ground for ya! I kinda know how you feel. Read in the "Kill Stories" section about the Saturn I'm about to race!

More power won't help him off the line. It will make it worse. Traction is the key

Weld some sprockets to the outside of your front and rear wheels, link some motorcycle chains together + put them on the sprockets + Voila all wheel drive camaro, we'll show those damn turbofied rice rockets a thing or two. We'll patent it + make a fortune.

Hahaha good one mystic i like it. I already have the rear LCA's but im in cali so i cant go long tubes and of road y and be legal. i was thinkin of goin with the bbk shorties but i dont think the gain will be worth the money. The other shitty thing is the guy runnin the STI already has a C02 injection kit on the way for his intercooler. The EVO already has a custom PCM that he just needs to get flashed and he bought a boost controller and a better fuel pump and hes supposed to order a cat-back soon. I do love the cool ass sounds that turbo cars make though. Makes me want to do the STS kit but thats to much damn money and theres more respect for staying N/A.

And another thing i need to do would be some 3.73's but that just makes traction issues worse. Lets put it this way though with the 18's in the back and overall taller tires than stock i got way more top end than i need. Im doin 90+ at the end of 3rd.

Don't let those ricers beat up on your just because they have AWD...
First thing you need is a set of tires. Those Vette rims should at least be able to handle 285's, go with the widest tire you can. 315's would be best, but I doubt they'll fit those rims. I'd go with Eagle F1 GS tires as well, I have them on my car in 285/40 series, and they are unstoppable when its warm out. I launched at ~2500RPM at the track when I went in October, I have an M6 and 4.10 gears, and all they did was chirp a couple times and I was off
I'd also consider doing gears, either 3.73's or 4.10's. If you do a real lot of highway driving go with the 3.73's, otherwise the 4.10's will be fine.

slip it, unless you have grip you dump it.......dumping it will just slow you down but it will look cool as shit.

feather it until you get up to speed, i get it around 2200 and then once the clutch is in i slowly open it up and then once second gear is in i dog it.

I'd say get an auto but my auto also has a traction problem with soft compound toyo's, my 6 spd actually seems to grip much better on launch, you would think the opposite but the auto with just a 2400 converter is a horrendos tire burner, compared to the 6-spd, could be the tires.

I love beating up on you guys with the AWD =p I gotta admit though, LS1 anything from a roll is rough for stock turbo sti/evo.
