    Concept car, win or lose

I can't predict the future, but I don't see the concept camaro as being a feasible production car because I don't think the general public will buy a car that is generally unfeasible and expensive in these economy days. Not only that, it resembles the old style too much and that was before my time. I didn't start driving until the 80's. So I have no connection with it. So, maybe older guys like 55yo will buy it? I think not. I'd rather just get a next generation vette.

What do you think? Will GM make a profit or lose everything but the kitchen sink once again?

Once it's released they'll sell faster than they can make them. Hell they'll preordered for the first 6 months of it's release. Besides that, this is the age of the "Baby-Boomers".

well ok in retrospect think about how hot the new stang flew into production they wanted it, this new charger people want it they all want cool looking retro cars without the old school problems. personally i hate the fact they keep cramming horrible designs down the peoples pocket book. chevy malibu wimp car! nova? crap! monte carlo no. gto looks too much like a damn grand am, but shes got balls i giver that. the last cool car standing is the vette. and now its so far out of price range for some of us 70 80 grand there is no money left after your $700.plus carpayment to add cool stuff and modify.
i welcome the new design i hope they make a new t/a also. i dont want GM to fail they make some cool stuff i belive they have been on the wrong track since 1987.

Hmm I am a mere 39 and I can quite vividly remember 1st Gens, hell had some GREAT nights in a few. I can attest that myself and most of the guys I talk to would LEAP at the new camaro. IF GM doesn't puss out and go el cheapo on the interior again..one of the reasons the mustang was such a success is that it was attractive to men and WOMEN.. and let us not fool ourselves women represent a HUGE buyers market, very few of them will put up with a *cheap ass* interior merely to go fast....and again look at the overwhelming success of the NEW Mustang...GM and DODGE got caught with their pants down.... I for one hope they both can come back from it and produce the Camaro / Challenger...if GM slaps a shitty interior in the Maro, I will simply buy a Hemi Challenger. That failing, keep my SS, simply cant afford a Z06, and why own anything less if yer buyin a vette.

You were like 1 or 2 years old when the last "1st gen" was produced and you remember it vividly? Hell i'm 40 and I barely remember the Bandit and that was in 78. You must have had a really OLD 1st gen. I never liked the first gen. And GM always makes crappy interiors and the most disturbing is they swear up and down they are putting quality on the road. How deceived can they be? They and Ford wonder why they have been loosing their market share for several years. I think Ford has better quality than GM over all, but their engineering is BORING. Fords = no thrill.. just my 2 cents.

Also, with those low rise windows on the concept car, I know I would feel closter phobic. Heck I can barely breath now just thinking about sitting in it. I saw a guy at the Lake in Dallas driving one and I could barely see his face. Looked like he was trapped in there.

the only reason i think it will be a lose is because of gas guzzeling tax,

i went to the dodge dealer, (just looking) and was asking about the charger srt-8, they had 2 there for a couple of months now and haven't sold one yet because of the 2,100 dollar tax fee for gas ,

now i dont know if this will be the same for the camaro but it may play a big roll

oh and that 2100 is out of pocket not included in the loan

A lot of sprts-cars now are charged a "gas-guzzler" tax. I know the GTO is charged, but I've never heard of the dealership wanting this paid out-of-pocket. It's usually rolled in to the total cost of the vehicle at the time of financing. Sounds like that Dodge dealership is trying to make a killing!

Hell, I ain't old, but I love me some 69 Camaro. Those things are SWEET. And so is the concept. If they put a cheap interior in it, then they will lose their ass. If the interior is nice, and the price is right, people will line up for that beauty. The 69 Camaro put all its competitors to shame in the looks dept. back then, and it puts all the modern "old look" cars to shame RIGHT NOW, and the first one hasn't rolled off the production line yet.

Keys to success of the new age camaro:
    1. Beefy solid axle
    2. Nice interior
    3. Low weight
    4. LS2, with LS7 SS option
    5. Keep the outside looking exactly like the concept.
    6. 6 speed tranny, with 3.42 gears, minimum, hell put a 7 speed in their capable of handling 600 ft-lbs.
    7. Avoid the gas guzzler tax, SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, even if it means installing cylinder shutdown or the dreaded skip shift. After you buy it, you can always get rid of that crap anyway.
    8. Make the computer EASILY programmable by aftermarket tuners.
    9. Make it easy to work on by the "shadetree mechanic"
    10. Good price, I say around 28K for the Z, and 34K for the SS.
    11. Don't even make a gotdam V6 either! It is Z28 or SS, or nuthin' at all!

Are you listening GM, don't f*ck this up!!

haha like all thats going to happen. You sound like you want a Viper. As long as Delco and GM's unionized manufacturer (forgot the company name) are still still producing the parts that go on a GM car, then its quality will always be 2nd to Honda, Acura & Toyota. I love GM's designs but the way they put them together with all their crappy switches and connectors really sux. My 89 Accord has much higher quality switches than my 97 Camaro. Go figure that one out. Its all about part selection. For example, If you want to buy a switch for some Electronics class, you can get a catalog that has a bazillion different kinds. Some feel good to the touch and some are cheap and dirty. Some work smoothly and some are hard like our turn signal switch on most GM's and pop real loud when they switch. Its just another sign of crap quality when GM uses all these junkie user interfaces.

My 89 Honda still has the original clutch, alternator, power steering pump, front end parts, waterpump and a lot more. Why can't GM's manufacturer produces similar quality parts? Hell my camaro has 89k miles and it's blown a head gasket, it has a new tranny, new tie rod ends already and the dang rack and pinion needs to be replaced!! DAMN! Thats because GM has used Delco for too long.

Remeber those 3rd gen firebirds and TA's, and how their headlight mechanism always broke? I tore apart that headlight motor one time back in the day and They install a plastic gear and a metal gear in there that work with each other. Guess which one breaks!! Right, the plastic one! But my 89 Accord's pop up headlights STILL WORK to this very day with 163k miles and 17 years later!

So I wouldnt be too hopeful about GM making a long last quality interior or exterior. But I do think the 4th gen f-bodys have the best interior compared to older models.

Another side note,... GM has never reimbursed me for the peeling of my paint job on my 86 IROC I owned in 1988. Let see, did HONDA's paint ever peel prematurely? Like within 2 years? I think not.

Yeah but I'll bet you that you don't drive your honda like your camaro. It sounds like you should be posting in a honda forum buddy. fwd, 130hp @ best 4 cylinder car probably dosen't take as much abuse as a 300 hp car that probably gets gunned everyday.

Ya oversteer out the booty on this accord. Oh my .. almost hard to steer. however, Toyota makes fast cars. and also, even Honda's are more powerful today and just as reliable as yesterday. And I don't see a relationship between horsepower & reliability. Because if smaller cars are more reliable because they don't torque as much, then what is the problem with cavaliers and neon's? They sure don't last as long as a Honda.

Look you have a nice picture of a White camaro on your profile. This car was made for ass whoopin and burnouts. If ford and chevy wanted to take the time and money to make their mustangs and camaros be reliable and have nice interiors they would have went out of business. They rely on mass quantity of units sold and in hopes that when you pay off your car you will go buy a new generation camaro or mustang. Thats is why ford and GM are in the top three and not mercedez.

Fast toyotas don't know of any off the lot. If you mean a supra with twin turbo it's no longer reliable and at the present time not in production

The new camaro will sell like hot cakes around here. I live in a military town. every where you look there are mustangs, gtos, camaros and t/as I have some friends who work at the local chevy and they complain that they don't already have the new camaro. They say that besides the trucks, they don't have anything to attract people to the lot. Out side of the corvette that is, which is to expensive for most around here.
