It depends do you want to run it(Camaro) or do you want to be part of the crowd (Mustang). Choose lead(Z28). Choose follow(Cobra)! I hope your question has been answered. Good luck!

If you are going to consider a Cobra I wouldn't look at anything earlier than 2003. All of earlier cobra's are slower than any LS1 Camaro.

Unless its a Terminator Cobra(03/04) then its not worth it, to be LS1 competition Fords need blowers, yes I will admit it, but my Ford has one so it doesnt bother me

If you are even CONSIDERING a Cobra of that era, and thinking that there MIGHT be some kind of comparison, then Id recommend buying a Civic. Same power output as the Cobra and alot cheaper. I think youd be much happier...

The supercharged 03 and ups are faster. "STOCK FOR STOCK" before anyone starts yelling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the early Cobras were underpowered dogs. There is a minimum of 75Hp difference. Be fast not trendy.

I dont know about underpowered. But those DOHC 4.6 will need a lot of attention. Go for the Camaro and do a lot less work on it.

Your friends don't know what they're talking about...01's aren't bad for a n/a 4.6....but the 96 you're talking about is a dog big time. The cobra owners in those years raised a stink on how the motor was overrated from the factory...guess they dynoed low stock. 03/04's are awesome...but as far as i know all the cobras are 4V's so they respond good to FI.

Definitely get the Z...IMO the motor is the best chevy's ever made. Awesome power under anal smog laws, good mpg, light weight and very reliable. The 4l60-e and the 10-bolt could of used some work...but hey...no ones perfect

96 are slow... if i remeber corect the 4.6 went through a head redesign in 98... after that i wouldnt hesitate at having a cobra... 99's and 01's are pretty bad for naturally aspirated... and considering alot of ppl around here will tell you to watch your ass stock for stock with mach 1's and its basically a 99/01 cobra motor with ram air... i dont see y ppl call them all terds...

if its just between those 2 cars... the Z...
