Both cars were rated at 305 HP from the factory. But there is no way that Cobra was making that kind of power. It was definetely overated. Its a hard decision to make. J/K. Go with the LS1 powered Z/28.

its the opposite..the cobra was making around 305 hp, but the camaro is making more like 350.

BrandonDrecksage, I said overated not underated. Which means the 96 Cobra is rated at 305HP but is making way less at the fly wheel.

I know..I"M saying that the camaro is under rated...we all know that is makes the same..if not more power than the vette....and that the cobra is rated correctly. only cobras that I remember being wrong with numbers were the 99 or 00.

BrandonDrecksage, I see what you meant. You are right. ZAPFOOL!!, the Terminator (03-04) is the only Cobra I would have to watch out for in a race.

I realize this thread is 2 months old but lets be realistic....sure 03/04 cobras are the more desireable stangs out there...but you gotta consider what your budget is and not to mention insurance....sc 03/04 cobras are a lot more to insure. Both cars are american muscle....ls-1 engines do have a huge advantage if you plan on keeping it stock or lightly modded. But if you go modded.....the cobra 4v cobra engines( esp. the Teskid aluminum blocks of the older gen 96-99 cobras w forged internals and FI...are pure beasts!) and will give any heavily modded L-s1 a run for the money! Your basically talking about a well modded terminator cobra with aprox. 250-300 lbs of weight reduction and a solid axel. I think the decesion here is based on styling preference and how thick your wallet is. I say go with the Z-28. better bang for the buck. If you want to get serious......look up svt.com in the buy and sell section...you'll be suprised to see how many high horsepower 96-98 cobras are out there. There's one right now that is turbo charged with +800 rwhp selling for $26,000 as opposed to a KB 03/04 cobra going for 30K-34K with mid 500-600rwhp...in other words..... check all your options before making a decesion...good luck!

True. My buddy has a 98 Cobra. Headers with no cats and he couldn't beat my stock 2000 SS. It does sound nice tho. He thinks the SS ram air makes the difference. Silly Cobra owner!
