Correct. I was also being quite conservative with the pricing. All too often we are optimistic in estimating the costs of a project and we forget about the little things that all add up VERY quickly. I figured those conservative figures would easily illustrate the point that $13K would get him well into the low 7's in the 1/8 mile.

Regarding the pros and cons of a supercharger/turbo vs. a nitrous setup:

The obvious advantage of a supercharger or turbo setup is that the power is always there for the taking. The counter to that is that the stress on the motor is constant as well. There are a number of daily driver boosted LS1's out there and many of the folks would tell you that they've had great success with those setups. The same can be said about a nice N2O setup.

your not really stressing the motor until you get on it with a turbo or supercharger

lets not forget..to be truely safe and allow for full potental of a FI ..these ls1s need to have their internals forged/worked and valve work to boot.

f-body motorsports is in the charlotte area. hawks third gen is in easley s.c and vengeance is in Ga. you can look them all up online.

and if it was me i would add full bolt ons and a procharger with no more than 8 psi that should do it. but if you got an auto dd i would go the nos route. the autos don't do good with boost on a daily-d.

I disagree I have an sts making 8lbs of boost and dd it runs great a4 with art carr built tranny and 2500 stall. plus I can run the ac in 100 degree 97% humidity and not overheat..

The tranny in the 98 is great. Put the shifter in 2 and it starts out in 1st gear and shifts to second way better. I never went out of second gear.
My times were in the 80mph range when I crossed the line. And my tack. was right at red line.
My 02 Ws6, when you put it in that second spot it just starts in second gear. It doesn't do the shifting like my 98ss did.

So your estimate of 12.5 is off because in the 1/4 I would have to put my car in drive and not be able to use the 2 spot on the shifter.

My 02 A4 Trans am feels slower than my 98ss. Maybe my car was a freak or maybe I just used every thing correctly.

Remember, I only did that time twice it was not all of the time as well.

Oh and I said stock but it did have a flowmaster cat-back on it. but what is that 10hp at the most.
i haven't been to the track yet but i know that mine shifts better to second in 2 when taking off fast against street action. so i guess i 'second' that.

At this point he's verging on needing a cage to run at the track. 11.49 and quicker and you need a cage. He already has half a fire suit due to the nitrous.

I know a guy who got his car into the mid 10's but it took a fully forged bottom end, heads and cam, a 250 shot, LT's + TD's and a 4.10 geared 12 bolt to go with his 'Viperized" M6.

    Like I said: CUBIC DOLLARS!

Like the sign sez: Speed is just a question of money. How fast can you go?
    full boltons - 1000
    cam - 800
    9" rear - 2500
150 wet shot - 500-1000 depending on your goodies
    tune - 400

ive seen this combo using a TqV2 cam go 10.5x's on slicks, stock bottom end, allow another 500 or so for odd jobs like fuel pump and maybe LCA's if you want.

    Sadly now demodded :(

How do you arrive at a cost for full bolt ons of only $1000?

Even selling/trading new and/or swap meet shopping for used it'll cost way more than that.

Plus the cost of slicks, rims (as required), LCA's & fuel pump and your close to $1000 on cost of those parts alone.

It cost me ~$600 for weld in SFC's and an adjustable TA installed alone.

ceramic longtubes and a ypipe are 500 at tsp brand spankin new
    a lid is 100
a catback can be had for 250 (although not an awesomesauce one, but they are out there, or you can just go cheap and get a cutout on the Y and have a couple hundred left in your budget). UD pulleys are a waste of money unless ur lookin to shave that elusive .001 off your bracket car and the stock TB isnt all that bad, and unless youre going with a well worked oversized valved heads and big cam the stocker will suffice, but you can always pick one up for 150 if you really had to. hes already got the ls6 intake as mentioned before.

the car i was mentioning is an 01 camaro with a 9", 4.10 gears, stock control arms but reloc brackets, ET streets, long tubes, ORY, catback, lid, and TqV2 cam. spraying 150

and i didnt say you would do the whole thing for 1k........... just the bolton power parts. yeah, u bolt on new rims but usually boltons are intake and exhaust mods. if you want to add that to the total go ahead, i was mostly just saying its not going to take a 250 shot and a fully forged bottem end to see mid 10s

and I do my own install, so that was parts cost. my LCAs were 100 and fuel pump was 200. ive probably spent another 200 or so total across all my installs on odds and ends to make it all work (random missing hardware ect...)

    consistent 7.20's in the1/8th.
my car (2001 SS) has full bolt ons + full drive train + Spray + some suspension...and the best ive got was a 7.45 1/8th

after the cost of the car id say ive got ~8-10k in everything...so heres the deal...i am at the limit of what i can do and still drive everyday comfortably, you can add waaaaay more power to these cars, but it takes more $$$.

if you can live with a potential loss to what sounds like a race car, then by all means, just race him. you could make it fun and make him run on street tires...

    also...

dam thats a lot of money. i have about 5k in mods and run low 7's, on motor!
    do tell mods?

you said you got a built trany. i freind of mine has killed two a4s now hes got a m6 and has had it in for 2 yrs with no problems.
    hes running a procharged lt1.

how do you like the sts kit? does it mount behind the drivers tire? Bruce at hawks thrid gen has one and i don't like the turbo placement. i would rather have mine up front. is their any advantage to having it out back?

I don't mind it but when I build a new vert to tt it will be front mount. mine mounts right behind differential.

most will say 3600..that way when you flash to 3600 your in the peak powerband for most cams..including the stock cam.

Does having a stall that high damage your tranny in normal driving? Normally my car is around 2500. It seems like it would be slipping most of the time.

if your tranny is in good shape...then you will be fine AS LONG AS YOU GET A TRANS COOLER AND A GOOD TUNE!!! those two aspects must be addressed.

3500 rpm with a STR or around 2.2 - 2.5 and it will feel close to stock.
