Just curious...when I bought my LS6 crate engine from www.crateenginedepot.com it came with a 3/36K warranty, as long as I didn't mod it! So, needless to say, with my cam, headers, CAI, bla bla bla, my warranty is void. Two quick questions fer ya..why an LS1 instead of an LS6? Unless you're going to replace the heads anyway, but the LS6 has a little better breathing block [the holes] and how did you manage to get someone to warranty a modded engine [car] for 3/100K?

Thanks for inquiring, would love to answer your questions.

I decided to have everything done at a Chevy dealership.
I know what your thinking before you say it...
There are 2 reasons I brought it to a dealership:

    1. I wanted the Engine installed correctly & without problems.
    2. I was given a FREE rental car for the entire install period, (3 months).
    (3 Months because of fitment issues/missing parts/misc/gm strike/etc.)

The dealership gave me the option to install 4 different motors:
    - LS1 SS Crate Motor 3Y/100,000 Warranty
    - LS1 C5 Crate Motor 1Y/36,000 Warranty
    - LS2 Crate Motor 1Y/36,000 Warranty
    - LS6 Crate Motor 1Y/36,000 Warranty

My original goal was to buy an LS6 & go from there.
Take under consideration, this is my daily driver, driven over 70 miles a day.
With that said, the replacement LS1 & Warranty was sounding better & better.

The dealership told me they would be using a lot of my old parts on the new engine, such as IM, TB, Exhaust Manifold, Pulleys, Fuel Rails, etc and if I wanted new stuff, now would be the time to buy them since the motor will be out of the car. They said they would install everything for no additional labor since this is all stuff they would have to put on anyway.

This was music to my ears, so I went out & bought bolt on's galore for the car. They told me they would still warranty the Engine since the bolt ons won't jeopardize the Engine in any way. I did not add Cam or Heads as I am choosing to wait for the 50k mile mark on that stuff.

I would paint the hood, or most of it. Leave the hood scoop carbon fiber, and color match the rest of the hood with the color of car. Just my opinion. love your engine bay though. Nice work on getting your warranty. Check to see if they could install an LS6, hotcam, or ASA cam. Their all gm parts. If not the hotcam or ASA, an LS6 cam still has respectable gains over an LS1 cam, and it's easily tunable and everyday driver friendly LSA(117.5). It shouldnt void your warranty since they're regular production parts.

Good point MAXPIT! I just sold the LS6 cam that came in my crate engine to a guy in this forum for his LS1. I know that one of the GM performance cams has a LSA of 110 though. That would be a bit much for a DD, I'm trying to remember which one it is.

how much did it cost you for the engine and install? it seems like a really good idea.

The LS1 installation quote before anything was done was $5900.
The base LS2 installation quote was around $10,000, w/out wiring harness.
(Not sure how "complete" the LS2 would have come either).

$8100 out the door, 3year/100,000 warranty.

This wasn't just the Engine though, this price included:
NEW: Belts, Hoses, Plugs, Wiring, AC Compressor & Condensors, Coolant lines, Heater lines, Seals, Gaskets, Fluids,
Alternator, Battery Mount, Rear end service & complete Tranny service + more!

On top of that, this price included FREE installation of thousands of dollars worth of bolt-ons & 3 1/2 months of FREE rental car.

Finally, the dealership has already changed my oil free @ 500 miles & they did a $300.00 Clay/Machine Buff/Detail on my car.
(They got all my scratches out!)
