    Question camaro vs Gto

so from everything ive heard, the 98 - 02 camaros are every bit as fast stock, as the new 05-06 GTOs. is this right... im confused becasue the GTOs, though they weigha few hundred pounds more, also have an 80 HP lead on the camaros, so why arnt they faster. am i missing something here?

uhhhhhh.....so what did you miss? Like you stated...the GTO has more horsepower but also has more weight....so it all evens out in the wash. You kinda answered your own question. That being said...my 05 GTO is slightly faster than my 00 SS was stock for stock....but no big deal

I've only taken mine to the track once, but I did beat two LS2 GTO's. It seems to me that either they spin or wheel hop when trying to get them out of the hole. They do seem to pull fairly hard at the back end though...

Actually, most of the fairly stock Camaros pulled between 297hp and 320hp at the rear wheels. If you figure a 15% drivetrain loss, you're looking at between 349hp and 376hp at the flywheel. Sooo.....comparing the GM ratings for the two cars won't tell you much unless you know how much they were lying about the FWHP of the GTO and in which direction they were lying. In Camaro's case they didn't want to offend the LS1 Corvette buyers so they downgraded the engine in the Cammy and rated it at 305 FWHP. In the Goat's case they might have overstated the hp to attract buyers or they might have understated it to impact insurance rates. Who knows? They run pretty even at the track, though.

man we know..it has been covered, ls1 make around 350 to the crank. oviously becuase of tolerances that can vary. but i believe the ls2 and ls4 were not underrated.

Depending on which tranny you have, I would say 305-315RWHP range. Closer to 315 if you are an M6. The 01 and 02s dyno extremely well

Your car should have an SLP option sheet on the passenger door, same place as the RPO code placement on the driver door. Usually, if your car doesn't have that sheet, you weren't equipped with any SLP options

Don't forget the goat also has a less efficient drive train, in either A4 or M6.
