Camaro and Corvette
Looking for some more insight to the difference in the LS1 in the Camaro and the Corvette. I have the a 98 Z28 M6 and my dad has a 2003 Corvette with an A4. He has a hard time believing that our motors make very close to the same power, because, as most people know, GM rated the two with different HP and TQ ratings. I keep telling him that power wise we are close to the same even though he has the weight advantage. As far as I can tell the only difference motor wise is that my Camaro has a 198/209 .500/.500 lsa 119.5 cam and his car has a 198/207 .467/.479 lsa 116 cam and an LS6 intake. It looks as if my camaro actually has a bigger cam- lsa seems pretty high??? Anybody know the effect of this higher lsa? His vette seems to have more lope at idle than my camaro which doesn't really make sense seeing that the F-body cam is slightly larger. Any ideas?

Um definitly don't quote me on this but basically in 01 and 02 camaros had a smaller cam as well and an ls6 intake. so the 98-00 camaros have the larger cam and ls1 intake. I'm not sure about the cam but i know my 01 ss has the ls6 intake manifold. So this difference took place from 01 on in both the camaros and the vettes. It actually says this in the sticky up top that's where i got it.

In addition to that above, the lower the LSA, the "peakier" the powerband will be, and it will be pushed up the RPM scale as well. My 112 LSA cam has a fairly lopey idle, and it also doesn't really "come on the cam" until 5000 RPM's pulling until about 7000RPM. Needless to say, past the factory shut-off point, so tuning, and additional support is needed to extract all of the power from such a cam. Note: LS6's pull to 6600RPM from the factory so I'm only going 400 past that point

I'd like to race him but we've never got around to it. Lately the weather's really shitty so we've just been going back and forth about it. He's got the 3.15 axle ratio actually...I looked up the RPO code...kinda wierd ratio. Maybe when it drys out here we'll give it a run.
