Brakes and EGR
I wondered what is the biggest size brake rotor and calipers that can be put on the stock tires of a 2002 z28 I am getting the car ready for a large cam bigger heads etc...You dont care but I want to push about 450 hp. Will the stock braking system work for that? Please give me your input!
Also, while they are taking apart my engine someone else posted that you can take out the EGR and Air Solenoid. If I tell them to do this what are the ramifications to this?

do you plan on hot rodding it all the time? becasue then better brakes would be important. otherwise it doesnt matter how much horsepower it has, big brakes are for high speeds, if your doing 160mph it doesnt matter if you have 300 hp or 450. dont forget subframe connectors if you plan on making big power.

By removing the AIR and EGR, your car will no longer pass emissions testing - if you have it. The car will need to be tuned to remove the SES light. Here's a good sticky explaining it.

And your stock brakes should be fine. I currently have a little over that hp, and never had a problem with the stock brakes.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
If you can figure out how to delete the EGR on a 2002 let me know...
Yes, I was being an ass. 2001/2 do not have EGR. The only function of the AIR pump is to heat up exhaust gas during the 1st few minutes of operation to light off the cats. If you do LT's, you'll be deleting the factory cats anyway so you can delete the pump as well. You will have to turn off a few codes but deleting the pump will have no effect on your now catless exhaust system.67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...

Unless you road race stock brake size is more than adequate. Anything larger than the c5z06 calipers requires an 18" wheel.

The air pump will not cause your car to use/burn/lose oil. That would be a seperate problem - either a leak or a internal issue.

If you can nab some brakes cheap off a wrecked C5 or C5Z, I'd go that route. I see them every so often in my area, but I'm waiting for an entire wrecked car, so I can get everything!!!
