Best bang for buck mods
So I have a stock Z28. Curious whats the best bang for buck mods? I saw this 300$ kit from SLP for a lid and a bunch of different stuff. Should I do that? Or just get a lid itself? MT btw.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. First I'd start off with the "free mods" you can do a search on the forum to find a thread that details them. Next I would do a lid and or LT's. You'll see the most gain from the LT's but you'll want to do the free mods first.

The free mods are worth the time really? And what about the SLP kit with the MAF Smooth bellows LID filter etc for 300$?

The Lid and filter are a good mod. Personally don't think the smooth bellow is worth anything. After the lid I go with a cat back or true dual exhaust system.

The first thing you want your LS1 to do is breath and flow better. The lid/filter/bellows is always a good idea, and should be followed up with a nice set of long tube headers and a free flowing exhaust. Those by far are the best mods for any LS1 on the road!!!
Next step would be taking it further with a new intake and cam... and possibly heads if your budget allows for it.

"the benefit to an aftermarket lid is because the stock one has pointless baffling inside and makes it obstruct flow. an slp, mti, or whisper lid just gives the incoming air a smoother path into the throttle, thus creating horsepower by allowing greater airflow. the reason everyone just says get one is because this subject is like beating a dead horse. there really isnt too much to debate. the lid is a proven performance mod and absolutely makes sense. so to stay in fashion....
GET ONE! "

Why, thank you, sir. It is my duty, as an officiator of the TJEA, to give my input at times of need, whether it be on subject, or not . Fortunately, this time it was on-subject....but if the topic of zombies need be brought up in this thread, you or I will be the first to let it be known.

So whats everyones favorite LID? Whisper? And should I buy KN filter at the same time or is it not really worth it vs the stock one?

Personally, I'm not a fan of most of SLP's products...however, I like their lid A LOT....
There really isn't much difference between the different types of lids...I'd say go for the SLP lid, which is only like $80 or $90 bucks...
The stock lid contains baffles; the purpose of these baffles is to keep the engine noise level down. However, these baffles also get in the way of incoming air and obstruct/restrict intake air flow. An aftermarket lid basically eliminates all the baffles (so your car is a little louder, so what? I doubt the small change in noise level has ever bothered a LS1 owner!), therefore effectively allowing more air into the engine without being obstructed. **An added bonus is that an aftermarket lid frees up more room in the engine compartment, making everything from working in the bay to cleaning the engine bay a little easier.**
To sum this all up, an aftermarket lid is one of the cheapest ways to increase your hp!

Best bang for your buck is getting new rear end gears. But with the 10 bolt Beware of hard launches. Get at least 4.10's with a 6 speed. I have 4.30's with my 9" and absolutely love them.
Gearing really gives you the best "performance" feel because your car is so much more quicker.
I would then start doing the lid, long tubes, catback, And then an underdrive pulley.
Cam, Heads, and intake next.
Then you'll need a new 9" and all the suspension upgrades.
Then forgeing your motor and adding a blower.
Dude it never ends.2000 SS Camaro Heads, Large cam, Fast 90, 9"w/430's and locker, yada yada yada... you get the picture

Doesnt the 4.10's kill your gas mileage? I dont really want to deal with that right now. And I dont think long tubes are legal in CA. What is the best catback suggestion? I was thinking going LID, catback, shortshifter, and then MAYBE headers. Not sure after that.
