    Arrow Battery Tray/Hold Down Question

I'm sure anybody can help me with this.

How does the battery get held down from the factory? I have the plastic tray it sits on, and then I have that wedge looking thing that bolts to the tray behind the battery. Am I missing anything? That thing really doesn't hold the battery well at all, it still slides and I can actually lift it out. Is this common or what do I need? Thanks!

I have an 02 convertible with the same exact problem. Fist time I went to the track the tech inspector pointed this factory flaw out to me & wasn't going to let me run. Then when he saw that none of the late model Camaro's had a hold down brace from the factory he decided to let us all race anyway.

the battery tray has a lip opposite of the clamp. the battery slides under it. mine broke at the track one day when launching. the battery flips over and the positive cable grounds against the accumulator bracket.

two things to fix this. get another factory battery tray, or get this, which will be cheaper and not break.

well, you can adjust it higher with spacers. it's made out of metal, so not real easy to rearrange it's shape.

    Sadly now demodded :(

The battery hold down is also a part of the coolant recovery tank. To replace the part of the hold down that breaks (the lip that is molded in at the front) you have to replace the tank.

The wedge goes in the back and has a bolt that threads thru into a boss molded in the tank.

That's how I found out mine was broken, the tech inspector at the track. Not the current car, my old one, the '98 broke its' hold down. I check it all the time, if it breaks in Too Fast I'll get the one that goes over the top from Year One.

Yeah so I got the bungee thing happening in mine due to the oversized Optima Red Top. Well, at least its a red one like the car.

Thanks for the idea. I will fab a custom one for my car.
